Ironically, people who are Mac lovers should be convincing you not to buy a Mac. Because the more popular Mac's become the more stuff like this will happen. Mac Virus Alert.

Ultimately your decision is going to come down to money I'm guessing. If you can suck it up and pay more for a Mac I would suggest it. They always have had far superior hardware to the PC's, and you can run Windows on them if you want. So it's really a no-brainer if you can afford it.

Well, Mac users won't be doing that, because we have never been plagued by any viruses problems like the PeeCee world experiences daily. Mac viruses have always been around, they just haven't proliferated as fast as their cures have.

The cure for this vulnerability went around yesterday from LSU information services and any mac user can get into the UNIX terminal and type a command that fixes the problem. slashdot.org

Apple will have a security upgrade out within days and the Mac OS will fetch and install it.

quicksilver. it's a launcher/all around usefull tool. Especially on a laptop, it helps keep your hands on the keys, not the trackpad

for chat use adium. It's as cool and usefull as trillian on the pc, but its free

    firefox for browsing

    netnewswire for rss feeds

    handbreak for ripping movies

    transmission for bt

perian for adding extra codec support to quicktime

if you do basic image editing, but photoshop is too expensive, give Pixelmator a try

Give Camino a try for a Mac browser. It reads the very few sites that are a problem for Safari.

I have to have the Microsoft Office 2008 suite, Filemaker Pro and the Adobe Creative Suite 3. All are expensive but my office paid for them.

Quantum GIS is a free open-source geographic information system. Tons of free mapping data is available online.

Google Earth for a free universal mapping tool

Aperture for photograph editing and management.

    Keynote blows away Powerpoint.

End Note for citation management is great for writers.

We use Sharepoint; emails from Sharepoint to MSO 2007 is buggy but works great with Mac 2008. Even MS products for MAC are written better......:insane:
