It should be simple. If a medication is prescribed by a doctor for a medical reason, then it is medicine and should be covered by medical insurance. If a medication is purely for contraception, then it should be paid for by the elective user, especially if it is expensive. The government has an vested interest in providing contraception to poor people who cannot afford it. Unwanted children in poverty-stricken homes often end up in foster care and eventually in public housing, and on welfare and food stamps and possibly in prison . . . all on the public dole. Condoms are cheap and also protect against DTD's. They should hand them out like candy and it will save the government a lot of money in the long run. But expensive oral contraceptives should be the responsibility of the user, it seems to me. Unless it is prescribed for medical reasons.
i would add that long term/permanent contraception such as tubal ligation and snipping should be paid for for those that are low income. yes, it is spending money, but the long term savings of unwanted children and the burden on society of those not cared for, or unable to be cared for is greater.
It's an employers right to OFFER whatever health care plan they want. People aren't forced to work for the Catholic church.....
People won't, which makes it bad for the company and bad for the country . . . and not all that great for an employee either. The government pays 100% of your insurance, right?
