He has backed off of building the wall. He will now allow muslims in the country. And those were the pillars of his campaign at first. That's what got the alt right on board. Those policies won't benefit him other than the fact that he pushed policies that he knew made no sense to capture the far right vote. That, in the end, benefits him and his ego.
