In sports media, this fabrication/unfounded report is the equivalent of Dan Rather's screw up regarding George W. Bush's national guard service.

Herbie and ESPN should make a public apology to LSU, Michigan, and the entire sports-loving nation.

I won't go so far as to say Herbie should be fired. But I don't think it would be unjust to terminate him.

None, if he had a source.

...and George W. said there were rolling chemical factories in Iraq. He has not been fired yet.

I think Herb has been hanging with the NASCAR folks a bit too much!

Rather had multiple sources! Look what happened to him! A journalist's responsibility is to confirm the authenticity of his sources before blabbing about what they said.

I think he should have to come to tiger stadium next year wearing a dress, carrying a sign that says I hate LSU, and be forced to walk the campus.:geaux:

    Touché. I agree. It's a double standard. :)

I posted this on another thread but it applies here too.

Look for ESPN to try to cover themselves.

If you ask me ESPN is trying to be a spin artist.

They are also trying to make it out like Miles has been flip flopping his decision when in fact nothing could be furthur from the truth.

I would look for ESPN to keep pounding their Miles flip flopping tactic to cover their own bad journalism

Honestly, I'd be surprised if ESPN or Herbie said anything much except that they were obviously wrong.

If they full-up apologize to anyone, I'd be impressed.

In all fairness George W. is not a reporter thus giving no credibility to my responce, however the NASCAR rip was dead on! And I am a NASCAR junkie!!! :thumb:
