1. Who cares about initials? Really? It is a Louisiana team.....with the majority of the players being from Louisiana.

Congrats Ragin Cajuns! You made the state proud last night.

Hopefully we will do the same on Jan 9th.

Enjoy all the success.....you deserve it!

  2. it's really no different from the California state schools.

Cal-Berkley is simply referred and know as by "Cal".

UCLA flows off the tongue well so there's really no need to refer to them by their full "University of California @ Los Angeles".

So why is it ok for the California-based versions to have one call themselves "California" and the other "UCLA" but not for the schools in Louisiana???

To be fair, I can see UL-Lafayette wanting to be "UL". Inconsistencies in displaying their school name was the reason for wanting a change in the first place for them. Even when they were University of Southwestern Louisiana and used "USL", any sports ticker/newspaper varied their name. I.E. "SW Louisiana", "SWLa", "USL", etc. No other school in the nation used the initials "USL" and people still couldn't get it right.

But their name change hasn't exactly done them any favors. I can see their frustrations in seeing "La-Laf", "ULL", "Lafayette", etc. So that's why I believe they promote the "Louisiana" on all of their sports teams or the "UL".

Louisiana-Monroe isn't exactly in the same boat, IMO. ULM "sounds" better than "ULL"
  3. UL is whoever you want it to be. It's a regional thing...just like UT can be UT-Austin or Tennessee or even Toledo. If ULL wants UL or University of Louisiana, they can have it. I can assure you, no one at ULM cares that they call themselves that. But still, on applications and official documents, you'd have to specify "UL-Layfayette"
  4. My beef is with the local TV, radio and newspaper. They refuse to call them anything other than "Louisiana" and, trust me, it's not for any other reason that to try and one up LSU. Their goal is the be THE University of Louisiana. I always get a chuckle when the Monroe game is billed as UL-Monroe at Louisiana.
  5. the name of the school is ULL and that is what they put on the diplomas of their graduates...some douchebags don't like that but douchebags will be douchebags...
  6. That bodes well for the city this year just in bowl games.

    NOLA Bowl attendance record set...

    Sugar Bowl

    BCSCG

Good to see the city stand to make some $$$ this winter. :thumb:
  7. I am with you. I even went to the game and wore a red shirt. I had a blast! And it was pretty loud. Upper Deck seats were never opened for sale but it was a great crowd.

My first Tiger Stadium game was in the 60's. My last one was 1999-we sold our tickets to a family with young kids. In that entire time, I don't think we had what you would call a winning team. But, in that entire time I NEVER heard Tiger fans referred to as complete ASSH**ES. Mostly people loved and envied our loyalty and awesome campus and the fun we had. My god we had fun.

So congratulations to the Cajuns and good luck to LaTech. Go Louisiana football! :geaux:
  8. I have relatives that go to ULL...and lots of friends who live in Lafayette. They're mostly LSU fans on any other day...I don't know any LSU hating ULL fans, but they won't hurt my feelings.

I had the honor of living and working in Golden Meadow ( I started one of the redfish farms in Barataria Bay) and I think the Cajuns are some of the hardest working, self sufficient, honorable people in the world.:hihi:

There are two types of people in the world....Cajuns and people who wish they were Cajuns.

I'm proud of ULL for bringing that bowl win a la maison !!!

    :laflagwav
  9. This is hilarious. The whole "we're UL" thing is so pathetic, any way you slice it. And the fact that it has to be explained so fervently just speaks towards how fraudulent the whole claim is. You shouldn't have to explain your school's name unless you're just making it up.

It always reminds me of Dwight Schrute calling himself the "Assistant Regional Manager" when he was really just the "Assistant to the Regional Manager".
  10. Honestly, I just like to give people, especially Tiger fans, a hard time about it whenever they perpetuate the lie of "UL". I realize that there are umpteen schools that have "of" in their initials but don't sound it out in their initials.

Sometimes, I even like to go with "Underwriter's Laboratory", because that's the only official "UL" that I know of.

This is an LSU message board, and we all know that the attempt at naming themselves "UL" is partially a slight at LSU. Therefore, we're obligated to mock them for it.
