I sort of figure it had to be something along those lines, but spinning? I've never heard of that. I'm wondering if the ref misspoke or I may have misheard; this still leaves me lost.
Spinning or Shifting When they were playing the highlights on Sports Center later that night they explained the penalty in detail and referenced the rule directly. They read the rule in it's entirety and concluded that the player did indeed commit the penalty. Also, I think that the guy on sports center used "shifting" when he referenced the penalty. So, maybe we got "spinning" from "shifting". I guess that could happen. "Shifting" would make actual sense in the context. When they replayed it, the San Diego State player did just that, he shifted. I gleaned this approximation of the rule from the quick segment, there are to be no illegal movements beyond what would be considered as normal defensive play. Shifting does not fall under the "normal" clause. Therefore, the justified penalty was levied. I think we all understood the penalty, just not what the ref called it. Just ended up throwing that in there.
Exactly my experience too. The ULL fans I know pulled against LSU verses Bama the first time and are pulling against LSU again. I'm happy for the school and the players though. Im more interested to see how many bandwagon fans I'm gonna see around Lafayette now. Before this season I never saw people flying ULL flags and stuff.
I don't have time to worry about the other state schools' envy when it comes to LSU. I am pro-Louisiana, therefore I pull for them all. Go Cajuns. Maybe you can make a bowl run and become a respectable mid-major finally.
Same here. I always pull for Louisiana vs. out-of-state opponents. Like when ULM beat Bama a few years back...in Bama!:hihi:
They commented last night that UL sold their entire allotment of tickets and then some....but there was still only 42k at the game last night. I know their limits in fan support (and they're not any different from any MAC team, etc.), but I would have thought their alumni/fans from all over would have surely all made the trip and gobbled up every seat not occupied by an Aztec fan. Does the NOLA Bowl just not issue the full 67K+ seats? I know they have to provide for additional concession, staff, etc. and perhaps the NOLA Bowl's budget entering the game isn't large enough to put out the extra money up front to sell all seats?? In all honesty, that still might have been the most attended NOLA Bowl since it began? I must say, reguardless of the teams and traditions of each, it was a very entertaining game.
A defensive player can be flagged for "SIMMULATING the snap count"....which, from the video replay, looks to definately be something he was doing.
