Why do people pretend present day republicans are the same as a republican back when Lincoln was president?

Better question: Why don't we have a 3D party of people who are educated, non-extreme, and who would rather work together than win?
Because they would never win. Make no mistake the great leaders want to win. How many times did Lincoln run for office? How hard did Reagan fight to win? The will to win is necessary to be a great leader. Our failure is we don't demand better and seem to be distracted by "bread and circus". We're getting what we deserve as a people.
My God if we had more Rino's we would have one party rule, government health care, a carbon tax, government run energy and one surpreme court nominee from the loss of the 2nd amendment just to start with.
