Yes Erickson made it to the mainland. However his landing and settlement had no impact on Europe or the future. Columbus on the other hand ignited the exploration and settlement of the Americas by Europeans. It gave rise to the greatest civilization in history. Erickson is more like the Neanderthal of evolution...a precursor but not the great difference Homo Sapiens Sapiens is.
I must now enter this August thread to loudly proclaim that TODAY is the REAL Columbus Day! That OTHER Columbus Day is FAKE.
