Granted I am not an expert but I don't know that yards per attempt is that widely used. Neither the SEC or NFL even lists it in their statistics pages. (It may be buried somewhere in the calculation of QB rating.) So I really can't fault the guy for not using yards per attempt to analyze JR. Can you?

thanks for making my point....he's does have all the talent in the world but he id just a junior in college. most bashers here seem to think he should have the savvy of a 5 yr nfl veteran. in terms of winning percentage he will go down as one of the best ever at LSU.

yes i can. it is his job, you know. btw, im sure the sec and nfl coaches only use stats listed on their web pages to prepare for games. id bet mlb doesnt list whip on thier website.

IMO, yds/attempt is an irrellevant stat compared to whip in baseball. At the end of the game, I want to know what the QB aaccomplished. If he's averagin more picks per game than TD's, what difference does it make how many attemptes it took him to reach his yardage? That's it, he's avg x number of yards per game . This other guy is avg y number of yds. Who gives a sh!t if x attempted 26 passes while y only attempted 19? The point of the article is this.
JR's stats drop more significantly against the leite than the last 3 SEC champion QB's. That's it. He doesn't have an aggenda, he's not out to "get" JR, he's just a guy on the outside looking in. He hasn't been drinking the P&G kool-aid for the last 3 years.

Well JR is #2 in the nation in yard/attempt with 9.9 yards/attempt. The guy ahead of him has attempted 60 less passes with a completion % of only 59%.

Yards/attempt is a good way to see how the QB is getting his yards, whether it be from short dinky passes to deeper ones that require more precision. The QB's with high Y/Attempt and high Completion %'s are the ones that are more efficient.

i disagree about the writer, he definately had an agenda of some sort against JR. He ONLY stated the bad stats about him and the good stats of the other QB's. Saying we won our big games in 05 in spite of JR? That is just stupid, he gives no credit to JR at all. This is the kinda guy that does not watch LSU games but probably only checks the box scores afterwards.

And Mauck wasn't exactly that great against top competition. At Ole miss? 3 INT's including one Pick6. Against OU (Possibly the biggest game in LSU history) 0 TD 2 INT's. Actually had 3 but one was called back. I'm not tryin to hate on Mauck but My point is he obviously wanted to bash JR in this article. While i agree with a lot of his points, reading the article just angered me, with the way he chose to portray his stats. He only wants to blame JR for LSU's losses while blatantly ignoring all the other factors involved. Maybe if he watched the games he would know.

To win this argument, you would have to refute that yards per game, touchdowns, interceptions, and completion percentage are collectively less important than yards per attempt.

But frankly, I only really care about wins and losses and this is getting boring. Let's focus on beating Tenn.:geauxtige

Here is where JR ranks nationally right now.

    Category Rank Numbers
    Rating.........5.......174.58
    Yards.........10.......1910
    Cmp %........5........69.9
    YPA............2.........9.9
    TD............16.........15
    CMP.........(t)20......135
    ATT.........(t)40.......193

    INT..........(t)84.......4
    Sack........(t)108......7

Some things you have to keep in mind.
    1. JR ranks 10th in yards and 16th in TD's while only playing three quarters of 5 of his games.

    2. JR ranking 84th in interceptions is pretty much proof positive his decision making skills are far more evolved than some give him credit for. You could also say his 108th ranking in sacks taken holds true to the previous statement. Many criticize him quite often for taking sacks all the time, here lies statistical data to prove otherwise. (Yes the sack he took at Auburn was a huge mistake).

    3. JR has compiled these stats with a weak running game and behind what may very well be the worst offensive line at LSU in recent memory.

While we sift through the countless threads on this board pointing out every minute fault of our quarterback, apparently the article author views things the same way, some may want to put things into perspective. JR is better statistically in almost every category than 90% of all quarterbacks in CFB.

i dont think the writer is out to get jr. and im not necessarily in love with y/att stat. i just think the writer does a poor job at analyzing jr with a superficial comparison to other sec champion qbs.
