Never said anything about SWAC teams winning in the playoffs. I'd just like to see a Louisiana tax-payer funded state university participating in the playoffs...ala the Nicholls State Colonels. And I will say this, often times in years past the best team and SWAC Champion has been either the Southern Jaguars or Grambling Tigers, but because of the Bayou Classic the best SWAC team isn't in the playoffs. That means that the second and often times third best team in the SWAC will go the playoffs and face usually the #1 or #2 team. I'd love to see what this year's Grambling team could do against other I-AA teams.

Umm, well, Baton Rouge is out. Which city is home to the most New Orleans evacuees? It's Houston.

Don't be so sensitive. I first typed "don't be a prick" but I was raised better so I changed it. Anyway, race has nothing to do with this, except as it's being posed by those, evidently including you, that want to make it so and those Network Execs who want to make a pc statement. It's a "feelgood" for the network. Like it, or not. Were there anything else going on, this game/site would not be on GameDay's radar. I love the Bayou Classic. I want success for both Grambling and Southern. It ain't about color. It's my state, man. But if you think this site selection has anything to do with anything other than...nevermind.

No, they originate from an understanding that College Game Day traditionally covers games with a meaningful impact on Div 1A college football, and this series never qualifies. Some of us don't like to see standards lowered for the sake of empty, feel-good gestures.

Why would I go to the classic? There's nothing classic about it. It's a game who's reputation is being almost entirely driven by the a concerted public relations effort to fill a kind of racial quota. As there is no rivalry of national significance between predominately black colleges, the media contrived to create one out of whole cloth. The fact that at least half of every major college football program consists of black athlethes is apparently not enough to assuage the guilt cause by the convolutions of group politics within the political left.

Question, why do they call themselves black national champions when there is always one or two white guys on the team? That's racism. :hihi:

If Terrill Owens agent represented the Bayou Classic he would try and have it played in Philly.

That way one of his clients would be.

I for one could care less where they play it.

I grew up going to the Classic every year. A few facts about the Classic.

The game is a big game to many people around the country, basically the Black College Super Bowl. Both teams have huge fans bases, which in general travel as well if not better than the big SEC schools. Many people do come just for the greek show and the band. The events of the weekend are just as big as the game itself, some of you may not like or understand this, but that is what you get with black college football. I tend to like it. And the game always draws 60,000 plus.

Over Bayou Classic weekend, downtown N.O., the quarter, the hotels, etc, are no worse for wear than after a Mardi Gras weekend. The classic gets more attention for some reason. There has been talk of moving the game, but as long as they have the Dome and hotels it will never move. True the crowds the events draws can sometimes get a little “out of hand”. And true the hotels do price gouge. But it is a perfect location for both schools, there is no other big event going on in the city that weekend, and now New Orleans will take all the tourist events it can possibly handle.

Gameday should go, what else is there this weekend, only 2 other top 25 match-ups, both with underachieving teams with no relevance on conference races or the BCS for those 2 schools (the games do matter for LSU). Besides Gameday has done games like Army-Navy and Yale-Harvard in the past, games that are more about the “event” then the actual game on the field. So why not the Bayou Classic?

Why shouldn’t we happy, other than the game being in Houston which is a great location considering the circumstances, 2 Louisiana schools are getting big time national recognition. How is that wrong?
