They are still #1 because The Ohio State Buckeyes are a storied program with a long and successful past. Florida State, while having had lots of success from the 80's on do not carry the same cache as programs with a longer history of national relevance. That's why the mediocre but still undefeated Seminoles were dropped from the #1 position last year while Ohio State maintains it this year. Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame and USC are always going to get the benefit of the doubt from the poll voters while the TCU's, Baylor's and others don't.
its because they are undefeated and reigning champs. id argue the same for LSU if they were in that position especially with everyone returning. not the same as when winston was gone for fsu. but they still get the benefit of the doubt until beaten. shit doesnt happen in a vacuum. history matters as do the coaches involved. you gonna take art briles over urban? im not.
That was my point. Last year Florida State lost the #1 spot in the polls when they were still undefeated and had the returning Heisman QB. That would never happen to Ohio State, Alabama, USC or Notre Dame The OSU didn't get into the playoffs last because of Urban Meyer's name. They got in because their name carried more weight than the names Baylr and TCU and a lot more Buckeyes fans would travel to the games than Horned Frog fans. And get better TV ratings
