after thinking about it, not so much,.. it's still the grand old game
.....when I was a little kid, I hated free agency, didn't want my players to be able to leave the Giants and go elsewhere
.....designated hitter was a change for the worst,.. somebody should fry in hell for that
.....the worst change seemed inconsequential at first, just stupid,.. the craze where a hit batter proved his manliness by charging the pitcher on the mound. Before that, the players enforced gentlemen agreements, the players punished the offender, or his teammates,.. "show up a pitcher after a homerun", well then, the next batter would catch a fastball in the ribs,.. " play dirty running the bases" and you're gonna get spiked,.. "purposely hit a batter",.. and your best player is gonna get drilled,.. there were no mlb rules about this, the umpires couldn't interfere.
when charging the mound became common, the powers created a rule, result was, the umpires began policing the game like they do today,.. that changed baseball for the worst,.. before, you could sense trouble coming, "oh oh, looks like there's gonna be a fight",.. you could feel the tension mounting, see the tempers getting hot.. it could become exciting as hell,.. now the umps warn the managers, and toss players,.. effectively throwing cold water on the emotions,.. it was a lot more fun before
