This once again proves that 2008 still haunts Les Miles. He still wakes up in a cold sweat screaming NO JARRETT NO
there is no nastiness to this offensive line either. La'El was a nasty offensive lineman, maybe Maea will be one day, and Pocic and Clapp but I see no nastiness in Vadal or Hawkins. But Vadal is playing out of position anyway. When you have 8 on 8, 7 on 7, 6 on 6, 5 on 5 and 5 on 4 or 5 on 3 you should be able to make some sort of a hole. LSU could not and they got pushed back all night. Not to mention Bama put on a clinic on how to shed a block and make a tackle or tackle with 1 arm while being blocked.
A lot going on here. The entire situation is frustrating as hell because we had these games practically in the bag in 2012 and 2014 but for the now infamous Chavis defense. Had we won those two, we likely are not having this discussion now, at least not to the same extent. I'm wondering if this is reaching the point where it has become a mental thing. Perhaps a sports psychologist could help. The crazy thing is, you have to all the way back to the Cholly Mac era for the last 5-game losing streak to the Bammers. This didn't even happen during the Archer/Hallman/DiNardo years. I think we all agree that the current/recent LSU teams are helluva lot more talented than any of those older teams, right? So, what's the problem? Coaching, scheme, execution, personnel? Combination of all four?
Here's the extremely frustrating part. Think about this and give me your honest answer then tell me how it makes you feel. If these 2 teams lined up to play each other next week, would the offensive gameplan change whatsoever? The answer really stings doesn't it? It's also baffling isn't it?
Recruiting factors into all of this. Interesting take from nola.com today: http://www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/11/recruiting_is_the_way_for_lsu.html#incart_big-photo
How does that make you feel? Knowing that our coach would do the same exact thing that failed so miserably?
That's exactly what it's gonna take and it's something we have been talking about on here for awhile. Chavis liked the smaller guys. Steele is all about the 240/250 lb linebackers and O will bring in the big bodies on the line and get away from this small shit.
