Lee may have not looked the greatest but he threw NO INTERCEPTIONS!!
He just needs some more time under there as starter and I am hoping he settles down. :milesmic:

Did you notice there was no chaos with substitutions.

Did you notice there was no scrambling to get the right play called before the clock expired.

This was the first game of the year against a team some had predicted to win the NC and most if not all had picked to win the Pac 12. This was no nail biter against an undermanned North Carolina team. This was no fluke win against a 12 man Tennessee defense. This was not an embarrassing performance against an Ole Miss team we should have blown out. For the first time in several years I feel great about this team after a win. How many times in the last few years have you watch LSU squeak out a win against an inferior opponent and think "We're not going to win another game this year, esp in the SEC."? How many of you had that thought last night?

fully agree. lee wasnt stellar, but he was a helluvalot improved. and he really seem to settle down as the game went on. and given that he was the number two until just a couple of weeks ago, and all the circumstances lately, you really cant ask for much more. i think/hope we are seeing krags influence as qb coach. by all accounts from national media at the manning camp, jj was improved. and now it looks like lee is also. if part of this is krags qb coaching, hopefully we will see lee improve through the season as he gets coaching while playing in real games.

our receivers tho did drop too many passes. that area has got to get better.

over all, i am happy. yes there were mistakes, but we made them against the number 3 team in the nation and still came away with a win that wasnt as close as the scoreboard indicated. our o, even with some areas that need to be tightened up, hung 40 on oregon. that is nothing to be ashamed of. or bitch about!

I have no issue with people being concerned that the passing game looked less than crisp. What I have a problem with is when people expect every snap to be a 100% perfect, dominating play.

I think some fans understand the rules of football perfectly but don't understand the subtle sub strategies of play calling during points in the game. Drawing opponents into 'stacking the box' by running the ball on a majority of plays for a period of time, sets up play action passes to exploit those defensive formations.

Lull and strike. Lull and strike. LSU was calling effective plays early on in the game. The issue was that the WRs were a little rusty and dropping balls that emasculated the "strike" portion of the equation.

I think what some fans were frustrated with was that LSU wound up in obvious passing situations on 3rd down as the result of a very good Oregon defense.

This was the 1st game of the season. Every other team in the country played a warm up team. We played the 3rd ranked team in the country and - despite the score - that team is definitely a top 7 team.

    Considering:

    1. We lost our starting QB indefinitely because of an incident whose shadow still hangs over the team and may yet cause other players to be arrested/suspended.
    2. Our OC stepped down a couple of weeks before the season started due to a debilitating disease.
    3. One of our starting WRs is out indefinately as the result of a separate investigation.
    4. At the exact time the game was being played, the specter of flooding homes due to a slow moving tropical storm hung over the heads of many players on the team worried about their homes being severely damaged.
    5. We had many true freshmen playing in their 1st ever game at the collegiate level.

The great thing about actual games against real opponents is that the coaches can now have the players focus on their breakdowns on the field instead of their breakdowns off of the field.

I think Stud did OK. Funny thing is, we ran a very "vanilla" offense. The quick toss right/left, pound it up the middle was working, so why change. I figured they would try to be conservative with Lee the first game and give him high percentage pass attempts. Lee looked OK, which is what we need and better than he has been in the past. I like the fact that we did not have to show our entire deck offensively, which means, to me , that we have a lot of wrinkles with our offense that will develop as the season progresses. However, a heavy dose of Ware/Ford may be the meal ticket.

Great point. I was also thinking about how a year ago LSU was giving up over 100 yards in penalties. Especially early in the season due to sloppy play.
