He'll get his share. They executed the gameplan for THIS game perfectly! Oregon is small on the lines and runs a fast-paced offense that try to catch you off guard and hit the big play. We come out throwing deep or too often, and we play right into their hands if we go 3-and-out too often or don't run time off the clock because of incomplete passes. Tonight, the key to success was to be vanilla; old school, smash-mouth football. Pound and pound and pound away. We KNEW our defense was capable of putting forth this type of showing, but we STILL needed to run some clock down and give them a break when we could. If Lee threw for 200+ yards tonight, then that would have likely meant the game was: a). too close b). we were playing from behind Lee was off the mark on a couple of passes (throw behind Peterson was one) early in the game, but he made the plays when we NEEDED him to. No doubt he was nervous, but his WR's didn't help him out either as they dropped a few passes that I thought they should have caught. Plus he had about, what? a 40-yard pass (GREAT catch) to Beckham that was called back because of holding. He moved up nicely in the pocket to avoid the rush and threw what would have been a first down pass but Blue stopped running his route. Boone dropped 1 or 2 that hit him in the hands. The throws might not have been as crisp or as accurate as they'll be come midseason, but, again, outside of a few throws early on that were behind his intended receiver, most of the targets had hands on the ball and just couldn't bring it in. But again, this was a gameplan that worked perfectly vs Oregon and their lightweight DLine but obviously won't work vs our conference schedule. Just give kudos to the gameplan for this week and don't come off so negatively because we just beat the #3 ranked team in the country (however OVER-RATED they may be).
I think UO's 19 play drive was one factor that caused LSU to keep running the ball more than we may have liked. Our defense was so exhausted after that drive that our staff chose to keep running and keep our defense off the field as much as possible. Lotsa cramps out there tonight.:geauxtige
If the gameplan all season is to run up the middle against eight man fronts don't make reservations for New Orleans. Good thing we weren't facing an SEC defense tonight. Still a ton of work to do running routes, catching the ball, throwing the ball and definitely play calling. If you don't have enough confidence in your QB to throw against eight man fronts you might as well run the wild tiger on every play. LSU showed that they are a very talented team especially on defense and special teams. They also showed that they are light years from being a legitimate SEC offense both on the field and in the booth. Hopefully progress will be made quickly. I'd like to see Steve take a very active hand molding the game plan and play calling. Send stud out for doughnuts.
I don't think that will be the gameplan. Lee did what he had to do tonight. The running game did very well; you take what the defense gives you. Absent the dropped passes and the long pass to Beckham that was called back b/c of a bogus holding penalty, Lee did quite well. :geauxtige
if krags made the decision to step down because of his health, deal with it. of course he would be my choice for oc, but he stepped aside for reasons no one should criticize him, or anyone else, for. if it is in the best interest for his health not to have that stress, then he is focusing on something more important, as it should be. we should be thankful he's on staff in any capacity now, and that he will do what he can to give input for stud to work with. this change happened just a few weeks before the beginning of the season. if anyone hasnt considered just how much of a cluster that could have been they need to get a grip on reality. the staff is handling what has been thrown at em probably as well as anyone could ask.
We won. Get your panties out of wad. We wore down our opponent and "running into an 8 man front" resulted in 2 Tiger running backs that rushed for over 90 yards and 3 TD's. So cry me a river why don't ya? Are you ever satisfied?
