There's fallacy in that argument. Saban HAD to be consersative with all those young inexperienced players on the offensive side of the ball. The same CANNOT be said for this year's team. We shouldn't be walking on eggshells on offense. This offense should be so confident that it basically thinks that it can't be stopped. I just think the coaching style has prevented that. These kids don't have the confidence that the coaching staff should have instilled in them in summer camps and it shows on the field.
There is another misconception by many Tiger fans. JR was never an interception machine last year. He had the one bad half at Florida and that was it! Otherwise I think the kid threw 5 interceptions the rest of the year (LSUgrad, get to work, get me them stats, lol)
I know that JR only had that one really bad outing at Florida, but the perception was that he was an interception waiting to happen. Some of his throws/decisions were scary. They are less so now, and he's coming into his own. Let's open it up.
You can't compare last year's team....Saban was forced to be conservative due to lack of experience on offense. Last season you couldn't really argue with us scoring 30 ppg....this year's a much different story. In five years you pointed out 2 games....whoopie doo....and the Iowa thing was just braindead, flukish in every sense of the word. Believe me, most LSU fans blame the offense for the Tennessee loss, not the defense. I truly believe our talent level on offense is up there with USC and UT. Our execution and play calling isn't, however. You, my friend, are mired in mediocrity. It's your happy place. And that's ok. At least you know where you are. ok, you know what's meant by a "playing not to lose" mentality. keep the arguments between consenting adults please. children enter at the rear, that's where the sandbox is. Ok, you sound like Bob Dole....how old are you again? :hihi: But seriously, you are the king of "settling"....that should be your new moniker/title.....screw that entire Voice of Reason crap.
And you, my friend are mired deeply in a pool of "Saban Envy". To say I am "settling" for an 8-1 record and LSU's current situation is to show how delusional you really are. You defend last year's record because we had inexperience at QB and receiver. Do you really think they are that much more polished and experienced this year? Jimbo knows his personnel intimately. Miles is learning more and more as the year goes on. The offensive "scheme" and play-calling is dictated by what they think will be successful. Why do you want to see a more wide open offense? Will it win more games? As CParso pointed out, that exact mentality is what cost us the one loss. Had we not suffered the interception, we would have beat Tennessee in regulation. Our offense scored enough and the defense stopped them enough to win. What I really can't understan, though, is that all of this criticism surfaces after a road win against the #3 team in the country with one of the best Ds in the country. The more you whine about the offense, the less credible you become.
There is one thing about this team that is different from the Saban days. The team has not come out and played well in the 1st half. The Tenn game was a good 1st half performance and the MSU game was a good 1st half performance. But other than that the 1st half has been poor performances. I'm talking about offense here. Thank God the defense shows up in the 1st half or we would have more than 1 loss. Also, it seems the team lets the opponent stay in the game and never can put them away. Miles has done a good job and Pelini has done very well with the defense since the UT 2nd half and Jimbo is being conservative as normal. Under the circumstances of a new coaching staff and hurricanes the coaching staff and team have done well. However, I think there are some things that could be changed, such as don't wait till the 2nd half to get the offense in gear, and don't be too conservative and let teams stay in the game.
:crystal: It's amazing to me how people have their head's in the clouds. Parso, to say that we have the same team as last year is crazy. We lost both starting CBs, 1 LB, and 3 starting DL. Plus we painfully had to watch Randall as our QB mixed with an inexperienced Russell. Now it was said that, even the year that we won it all, this year was going to be our year. There is only one way that we are not going to win it all this year and that is Les Miles. He does not have a killer instinct. We should have destroyed UT, UF, and AU. And Im not going to even say " well if Saban was here......" I'll say this, look at Steve Spurrier. He is 6-3 with a pathetic football team. Why? Because he has that killer instinct. When he has a team down, he doesn't let up. Now, one constant in our inept offense that last few years is one Jimbo Fisher. I didn't blame Saban and I don't even blame Miles. I only blame Miles for his conservatism and bad coaching decisions. Say what you want, but it will catch up to us. Take for example the ASU game. Calling a fake punt inside our own 20. I know we made it, but that was a horrible call that would have cost us the game probably if we don't. Then the UT game. Enough said there. And now the Bama game. Yea, you say we would be crying if we would have gone for it instead of trying 3 FGs. BULLSH*T. I was thinking of using CJ to his strength, punting, not his weakness, kicking. But yeah, we could have gone for it too. Since we're gonna give them the ball right there on a missed FG. might as well go for it. So, yeah, we are getting away with it this year. Cause Tennessee is not good this year, Auburn is not as good as last year, Florida not that good, and Alabama not as good as people think. But these teams will be good in the coming years, plus the Ol ball coach is back. So if this continues, this will by far be Miles' best year as our coach.
Re-read what I said. I said the same team except with notable players gone to the NFL. What is your point? That we lost talent & should be a better team this year because of that? This year was supposed to be our year. Before our coach left & we had to go through a coaching transition. It doesn't matter that Miles was the new coach - every team experiences coaching transitions regardless of who the new coach is. This, not to mention going through a coaching transition during 2 natural disastors & 3 games moved. I'm not excusing anything based off this. Many LSU fans here believe these things have made no difference & everything is Miles' fault. Outsiders see it much differently. Miles has been nominated for the Coach of the Year & many national news outlets have applauded his coaching thus far at LSU. Spurrier is a great coach. Miles may not be, but you don't need a great coach to do great things. Saban wasn't a great coach IMO, but he did great things. Miles didn't call the fake punt inside our own 20. Jackson called it without Miles' knowledge. Let's make a 15 yard throw & force a football on fourth down against the best defense in the country!!! Brilliant! You should be coaching. Miles playing conservative possibly won that game for us. We go out there slinging the ball around, we spot them 7 points off of an interception. Look at the Tennessee game. JaMarcus threw an interception when we were up by 21 I believe to begin the 2nd half & gave UT 7 points. Without that interception, LSU wins the game. But I guess we lost because Miles lacks that killer instict. Wait & see.
