That's also true. MLB takes most of the best talent out there as well to narrow down the pool.
SB must have great recruiting in their area.

The reason I ask is that it looked to me like we had better athletes, but they had "ball players" who were coachable and clearly followed direction w/good execution. I wonder if some of this has to do w/us recruiting top players, whereas a team like SB recruiting the "right fit" type player, knowing they are not going to get the top recruit to go to SB.

As I mentioned earlier, it just seemed like our hitters had a rather timid approach at the plate. It's one thing to be patient and work the count, but it's another to watch grade-A meat pitches whizz by time and again. Working yourself into a hole at the plate changes your whole approach, and that was what I saw a lot of in the latter half of the season. To me, that is coaching.

I thought we were the team of destiny after those improbable comebacks in Game 1. I'm with you though. Even though I don't think they'll win it all, I'm pulling for them to. Even if they don't, I think they'll do some damage. They have a tough first draw though in UCLA, then they'll either face FSU or Az, so it won't be easy. Still, if they can beat us, they can beat anyone.

Part of the problem here is who we were playing and the announcer pointing out how we were swinging aggressively, and SB was being patient. I think those factors inadvertently affected all of us and have led to this discussion. By comparison to LSU, SB appeared so disciplined at the plate. I think SEC teams face better pitching on a regular basis in conference play, thus the lower batting averages for most SEC teams.
