The 3rd baseman and lead off hitter were scary good at the plate and BTW 8 of the 9 hitters are over .300BA. Give them credit for what they have done. You know in almost every sport a team rises up from the depths with a perfect storm type run. Think of Boise State in football, VCM & Richmond in BB. Not flukes but the combination of good luck, good coaching and atheletes maturing to be better than expected. Why were Stony Brook's player on Miami's team or some other traditional power? *hit happens.
It happens sometimes that a very good team like LSU was runs into a buzz saw. It was too bad that Rhymes, Nola and a couple of others hit a slump at the wrong time but that is baseball. We also had some bad luck yesterday with the rain when Gaussman was pitching. Even with all that we lead only 1 inning in 30. Stoney Brook was better this year and good for them but until they get multi national titles and appearances at the CWS don't compare the programs.
Manairi seems to be adjusting. Dunn improved the pitching significantly. Our hitting has been streaky yes but was better this year than last. Rhymes & Katz are coming back with Jones, and others. we have Nola & Eades and others on the mound. I have hope we will be hosting another super regional in 2013.

agree other than our pitching coach. he is my only disappointment of the season. Eades was supposed to be stellar, yet he was a joke (Eades, I love you, and you will get it together). Gausman was the #1 NCAA pitcher in the draft yet he didn't win SEC pitcher of the year, much less NCAA pitcher of the year. I would be absolutely humiliated if I was his coach. and that was our best story at pitching. everybody else besides Nola (who will end up a great) and Cotton (who is a god without the tools) ended up a failure this year in my eyes

just you and the friends you mentioned are retarded on just one issue (baseball) ..and just you on football. no biggie. its not like anybody here follows baseball anyway other than me and like 2-3 others at most. why don't you have your baseball friends post here so I could have more than 2-3 others here that I could talk to that actually give a shit about following baseball?

When a school nobody heard of two weeks ago is fielding more MLB talent than a team that won an NC 3 years ago, there are clearly some major issues that need addressing. Mainieri has acknowledged the recruiting problem, and with the overall talent level on the team they probably overachieved this year. It'll be interesting to see whether he continues to pull a Dinardo with Sanchez.

MLB heard of them, scouted them, and drafted a lot of their players. Stony Brook is fielding a team with a lot more talent than a lot of teams. They earned their way to Omaha.

I never said they didn't. They showed that with a dominating performance. MLB scouts who follow the college ranks for a living are one thing; show me the average college baseball fan who had Stony Brook anywhere on their radar prior to regional play.

From my military perspective it appears you are saying we have a "General" that appears to be pretty good at winning skirmishes, minor engagements, many battles but somehow seems to lose the "war" every year?
