I was going to the games when Bertman used to bring the team to the restaurant I worked at to pass out free tickets, just to get people interested. We used to study in the stands when only 300 people were at the park. Yeah, I've been watching for a while. Not really sure what that has to do with the discussion though.

Glanced over the comments & I don't think anyone noticed that Mainieri said on Monday (I think Monday) that his entire coaching staff was coming back! No changes! So I guess he does think hitting coaches are overrated. He did change pitching coaches for 2012 and supposedly LSU's era went down 1.00! If you all remember, he over-recruited one year and several top high school recruits went to MLB, then he changes the pitching coach after a dismal 2011 pitching season. Why not put an end to his players taking 0-2, 1-2, and 2-2 pitches? TheTigers hardly ever came through in tight situations because of so many striking out, looking and double plays.

Mainieri has made it clear that he thinks there's no coaching problem, it's that his players didn't make plays. Time will tell whether the players he's responsible for recruiting and developing continue to not make plays when it matters most.

Sort of like SB and UF in the CWS, right?

We'd actually have to make the CWS to find that out, right?

If we show marked improvement at the plate this will be a non-issue. If we're still having problems cracking .200 in post-season play 2 years from now, then the problem just might lie with someone besides the players.

but lsu has not shown improvement at the plate, take too many pitches, then down in counts and thus more strike outs, and too have a hitting coach with no prior experience won't fix batting issuses.

and yes i was at the old alex box when no fans were in the stands, and yes i went through all the ups and downs of tiger baseball, but to say our current situation in not a problem is just foolish, when the current coaching staff can't fix a problem on hitting, and playing better,is just unacceptable when usc florida arkansas vanderbilt, just seem to lose players and rebuild and lsu is slipping and not being anymore than a average team than i have to question what's going on.
