Most likely both. We're trying to play like a small ball team most of the time without the speed, athleticism and bunting skills to pull it off. But we don't have the power to swing for the fences like we tried in Game 3. And I don't know what we're doing at the plate. We have guys swinging at breaking balls at the ankles when they're ahead in the count, and looking at fastballs right across the middle. And that's been consistent all year.

 

It was both from a recruiting perspective and a hitting philosophy that befuddles the mind. Jacoby Jones was a Mahtook type athlete that fell apart at the plate and loss confidence. It was Sanchez's job to work with him so he regains his stroke. That never happened. The injuries in the outfield really hurt overall team speed. Fields never did hit and became a liability in the line up. This team could have easily missed out on a regional without the oustanding pitching and fielding the team had on display. Next year's team should have more speed and hopefully more pop in the batting order to make up for the loss of Gausman and Goody.
