I am sure they were afforded the ability to look into everyone and I believe Manafort was already being looked at because of this. Seems it would take a pretty big team to find this kind of stuff.

The charges against Manafort and Gates, summarized:

- From 2006 to at least 2015, Manafort and Gates acted as criminal unregistered agents for the pro-Russia faction of the government of Ukraine, and in order to hide that activity laundered millions of dollars through American and foreign corporations and banks.
- In order to hide that activity, Manafort and Gates falsely reported to the IRS they had no foreign bank acccounts.
- When questioned by the Dept. of Justice about their activities for Ukraine, Manafort and Gates responded with a series of false and misleading statements.
- Manafort used his income from those Ukraine activities to buy expensive properties and lead a lavish lifestyle in the USA, without reporting or paying taxes on that income.
- Gates assisted Manafort in acquiring that income from offshore accounts, and also used foreign income to pay his mortgate and children's tuition, without reporting or paying taxes on that income.
- Conspiracy to defraud the United States.
