What I hated about JJ. He had a tendency to blame the other players for his mistakes. I cussed him left and right at home watching the games. I never booed him at the stadium though. If there is one way to piss off a player and have him underperform. The fans Boo his ass at home.

First let me point out that I am amazed that we are actually having a discussion about whether or not LSU's offense is horrible. Anyone who has watched LSU football recently knows it's horrible. The fans know it's horrible. The media analysts know it's horrible and Miles knows it's horrible otherwise you wouldn't have seen the coaching turnover we've had.

You're comparing it to Saban years ago which means nothing. There is no context.

The issue is the performance of the offense relative to the talent on the field , the performance of the defense and the overall offensive coaching. I feel comfortable in saying that I feel most fans that are critical of the offense are mostly speaking about the offensive coaching and play-calling, not the lack of offensive talent. IMHO the coaches and specifically Miles have not gotten the most out of the offensive players. And even if by chance you think the players aren't as good on offense, it goes back to coaching and recruiting which is ultimately coaching.

We're talking about the performance of the offense in relation to the performance of the defense and the athletes that they are working with. LSU's recruiting has been at a high level for quite a while and the talent levels of the offensive athletes and the defensive athletes are the same. With that understood, the performance of the offense and defense is the result of coaching.

So how can you know if your offensive coaching sucks in relation to your defensive coaching? After all, they are all using the same caliber of athlete so they should compare somewhat equally, correct? You have to compare them in context with each other and with the rest of college football teams during the same period of time.

Here are the national ranking stats for the last 6 years. I'll get to the statistical reality.

The difference between LSU's offense and defensive rankings over the last 6 years has been 61 positions! And if you want to get even closer to reality by looking at the last 5 years it's nearly 70!

A difference of 70 ranking spots between the offense and defense over the past 5 years! That's fucking abysmal.

It's gets even worse when you consider the synergistic effect that the offense has on the defense which gets more tired. Had the offense a been little more effective, the defensive stats would probably be even better. Conversely, the offense theoretically should have done even better since the offense relies on establishing a rhythm. Even with LSU's great defense giving them opportunity after opportunity to quickly get back on the field, they didn't do anything with it.

Any since you brought up Saban I went ahead and calculated his stats over the same period. I was going to post them along side but it made me sick and I couldn't do it.

Maybe we can discuss other hotly contested issues like whether fire is hot. LSU's offense over the last 5 years has sucked and everyone knows it other than a few eternal sunshine pumping optimists who won't or can't see reality.

    Have a great day.

See, Red, Shane hates JJ, not just his mediocre QB play.

I have a hard time hating a Tiger like that.

How the hell did Crowton not get fired after the 2009 season with an offense at the statistical bottom of the nation?

The offense has sucked in its lack of ability to do the things it needs to do, like score a crucial touchdown from five yards out or maintain a game-saving drive. However, I really could care less about yardage statistics, because good defense and special teams give the offense short fields. Our defense and STs are some of the best, ergo, the offense has had some of the least opportunity to rack up yards. To what else do you attribute the ranking discrepancy between our total offense and scoring offense?

Additionally, how many teams have top-flight offenses AND defenses? There is an oft-dissected theory that those offenses that eat up yards and score at will are actually detrimental to their corresponding defenses. Stats tend to confirm this. See: WVU, OSU South, Oregon.

End the end, LSU is, was, and will always be one of those teams that scores somewhere in the mid thirties while keeping the other teams under two TDs. SCORING is the goal. SCORING is all that counts. With a defense like ours, we don't need to score a ton of points. We never will.

The only thing we really have to complain about is its lack of ability to convert when needed.
