It's Les' team and he's going to be involved in the offense to a degree. I'm OK with that, it is so with every head coach. Les is the most successful coach in LSU history and deserves the credit for that. All I ask from les is to let Cameron manage the clock in the last 4 minutes, never bench a 9-0 starting quarterback, and if his pet quarterback is overtly losing a national championship game . . . Put the 9-0 starter back in.
With the way that our offensive line was getting manhandled in that game, do you think Lee could possibly have done any better? (That being said, I wanted to see for myself that night if he could've done anything. However, over time, I've come to realize that many on our team stunk up the field that night, starting with our line.)
In a way, LSU basically conceded their last drive on O of that game. The prevent that you are referring to was a blitz call then lead to a TD. Blown assignment.
Didn't I hear that Lee stopped going to class somewhere around October and ended up failing all of his classes? That would make sense as to why he didn't see any action in the NCG, as it was after the semester was over and the grades were tallied. Les wasn't kidding when he said his first goal was 100% graduation. It's part of the reason we like him so much - he WANTS to win, but he won't do it at the expense of his integrity.
The preceding plays were classic prevent. When we got aggressive, we had a blown assignment for the TD. But they should NEVER have gotten down the field like they did.
If he was academically ineligible, then why wasn't he suspended? Lots of other flunk-outs have been suspended. But if the guy is standing on the sidelines with no announced rule-breaking, dressed out and ready to play and you don't use him . . . it makes you look like a coach who is willing to lose a championship game just to piss off a player that pissed you off. Les' highly paid job is to win football games, especially championship games. If Lee's trangressions were so bad that a championship was thrown away, why wasn't he simply suspended with an announcement that he broke team rules? Les was not honest with the fans and something stinks to high heaven about the entire affair.
And we'll likely never know what it was, but I'll never be convinced otherwise. May not have been a locker room brawl or Lee missing classes over some chick, but something sure as hell happened.
Do you forget how the O line was manhandled in that game and how Lee always had the deer in the headlights look against the gumps? I would have liked to see him play because he was a senior and had given so much to LSU. However I would have seen his entry into the game as a concession. Remember he game was close enough to have hope well into the second half. If you think that Lee could have stood a chance against the gump rush that night, you're smoking some of Lasalle's stuff.
