I think having Clinton as VP would lose Obama more votes than it would win him. I can't see democratic folks that won't vote for a black president voting for a black president if Hillary is VP. Of course, maybe racially prejudiced folks are less likely to vote for Obama if he has a hispanic VP, but I think Red was right when he said Richardson is one of the top VP candidates. I think winning the hispanic and moderate vote would be easier with Richardson and in general Richardson would net Obama more votes than Clinton would. Clinton staying in the race sure is keeping a lot of media attention on the democratic party.
Clinton will get him far more votes than Richardson, but Richardson would be a far better VP for O'Bama.
I can't see Hillary Clinton ( and Bill and his posse) playing second fiddle to Obama. In addition if Obama slects Hillary to run as his VEEP, he is bringing on all of the Clinton's baggage upon himself. He doesn't need that if he wants to win.
Hillary doesn't fill the Obama gaps. She is not strong enough in the areas where Obama gets criticized, mostly national security and foreign policy. Obama doesn't need her in many of the big ticket states and a candidate with less baggage than Hillary and more Senate experience than Obama would be a better choice for him. I see her as more liability than asset. If Obama is looking specifically for a female then Dianne Feinstein fits the bill in many ways. I think her pro Israel stance may be a sticking point however with too many people. Feinstein is a member of the following U.S. Senate Committees: United States Senate Committee on Rules and Administration (Chairwoman) United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security (Chairwoman) United States Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Related Agencies (Chairwoman) Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Defense Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Select Committee on Intelligence Joint Committee on the Library (Chairwoman) Joint Committee on Printing (Vice Chairwoman)
You are right, she is a good choice, but Hillary supporters would go ape shyt over him picking another woman. They have indicated that.
He doesn't need a female. Obama only owns half the democratic voters. He needs Hillary's voters to beat McCain. All of them. She's the only one who can swing that. Richardson would be a better VP and would have been Hillary's if he hadn't switched horses. Think what you want of the Clintons, but they are the most politically astute players of their era in Washington. Hillary doesn't want to be VP, she wants to be a player. My bet is that she knows that Obama must select her to get her endorsement but he really doesn't want her. So Obama must now give her something else so that she can politely decline, but endorse him . . . and he can name Richardson. "Some day . . . and that day may never come. I will call upon you for a service" -- Vito Corleone Teddy's impending absence in the Senate will leave a leadership vacuum among the Senate Democrats, you know. Hillary is not just Bill's wife anymore. She has a big swinging d*** in the Senate now and the President of the United States of America will owe her a big one. She'll have far more influence on the Hill than being back-roomed at the White House. Especially if she's knows that she'll get support from down the avenue when she needs it. Just my opinion . . .
When it really comes down to it, in an election does the VP candidate REALLY matter? Cheney is the "power behind the throne", but did he really bring in votes for Bush during the elections? Gore, Quayle, Bush I, Mondale......did any of these guys really affect their respective President's votes? I think a VP candidate has little positive effect, but can possibly have a negative effect (see Qualye, even though successful the first time).
Damn...I agree with both of you...and at the same time! I'm going to run out a buy a lottery ticket! :hihi:
I'm still bitter with her announcing San Francisco as a "Sanctuary" city for illegal aliens and then flip-flopping to say we need to be tough on immigration. I wasn't a fan of hers while I lived in California but I'll take her any day over Barbara "let me blame everybody else" Boxer.
