Doesn't really surprise me. But, it's not like college football players all over the map are driving cars they can afford around campus. Even here at LSU you used to read rumors of so and so driving around in a car he could not possibly afford, however I have noticed that this kind of thing has not popped up on Saban's watch. Ohst will eventually come under fire. Fans used to think ALA could get away with anything, and they got hit pretty hard . . . I suspect Ohst will have some problems in the future.
You should be careful what you wish for... I know for a fact that players at LSU get "benefits." It really does go on at pretty much every school. There are boosters for every school, and they'll do whatever they think will help their alma mater.
Ok, I just read through the entire thing at ESPN (they have 5 articles on the issue). If what MC says is true, then this is a real mess for Ohio State. Now, we are not so blind to think that this doesn't go on every where. But, after reading all of it . . . I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for MC. No one held a gun to his head and told him to take everything they were giving. At worst his only responsiblity was to stay at Ohio State until his Jr yr, that and keep his mouth shut. He didn't do either. So, while I don't support this kind of thing I don't feel sorry for MC. He kind of comes off as a crybaby, who expected this kind of special treatment but also wanted to leave after his freshman year and bend the rules of society to his liking. If he keeps his mouth shut and plays through his years . . . he would have continued to enjoy special treatment and he wouldn't be complaining. Instead he called the university a bunch of liars, wanted to jump early to the NFL, and then got pissed when the Ohio State machine stopped treating him like a god. It is an interesting story to read though. Here is the main link, and from there you can get to the other stories: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1919246
I don't recall wishing for anything. I'm gathering that you think OSU shouldn't suffer any consequences for this behavior. Maybe you think this kind of stuff is the right way to run a program, but I don't.
to a large degree its inherent in every major program and cannot be attributed to the coaching staff. It cannot be fully controlled nor will it be stopped, just lessened. To think this doesn't go on at LSU is shallow at best. If you want other programs busted for the same behavior he is saying watch what you wish for. turnabout is fair play. it happens a lot here whether you believe so or not. just much less due to the fear of NS' wrath.
Its hard to fault MC for taking that. If I'm a 18 yr old kid coming out of a low income lifestyle and all of a sudden I've got people telling me do this, do that, its ok, dont worry AND handing me cash and giving me cars to drive I don't know if I could refuse either. Walk in the guys shoes before you decide to trash him.
im all for it. Id go the highest bidding school if i was torn between a couple. best car and cash. thanks. chicks are lagniappe.
at least 90% of all 'major' universities if not more. You should befriend some athletes who attend top universities and get their insight. prolly 100%. UF/UT/the other UT/OU/LSU/Miami/FSU/NU/Michigan/Ohio State/USC/Notre Dame any of em. would be hard pressed to find one i would believe didn't. hell it happens at high schools now. money in fat envelopes, cars, jobs for families. been going on for decades. Maybe 30 years ago it was a lot less but now the playing field is leveled and its who can outbid whom.
