New pitcher starting today. Transfer from the dissolved Akron team, John Valek:

    John Valek III Bio
immediately eligible at LSU for the 2016 season after transferring from Akron University, which has discontinued its baseball program
    • Voted 2015 First-Team All Mid-American Conference; also was MAC Pitcher of the Week on March 23
    • Posted a 6-6 mark for Akron in 2015 with a 3.25 ERA as the Zips No. 1 starter … recorded a team-high 99.2 innings with 62 strikeouts and 26 walks while limiting opponents to a .232 batting average
    • Recorded a 6-4 mark in 2014 at Akron with a 2.77 ERA over 91 innings … named to MAC All-Tournament team
    • Made 42 career starts in three seasons at Akron
    • 8-2 with a 0.75 ERA in senior season at Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Fla.; named 8A District Player of the Year
Paul Mainieri on John Valek III:
“Anyone that loves college baseball like I do is saddened by the decision to discontinue the baseball program at Akron. Shortly after the announcement was made, we were contacted by someone that told us John Valek would be interested in transferring to LSU for his senior season. Several very good baseball programs offered him in the hopes he would transfer to their school. I’m glad we could provide John with this opportunity, glad he chose us over those other schools, and hope he has a good baseball experience to cap his college career. This is a young man that already has 270 innings of college baseball pitching under his belt. That is a great deal of successful experience. He is an intelligent young man that knows how to get hitters out. He knows what kind of a pitcher he is, one that depends on craftiness and guile to succeed. He will help our team in some capacity that will be determined during the competition in fall practice.”

Welcome aboard, John. Don't fuck it up...
