Agreed. Christianity and modern Judaism are both sects of ancient Judaism.

Careful Red, you souldn't make absolute statements about which you apparently have little background. Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, "Let Us make man in our image..." The "Us" referes to the triune God. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Insofar as God is concerned, there is no beginning. He simply was. Revelation 22:13 "I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last...." The "I" is Jesus Christ, speaking of Himself. Of course, the common thread is Jesus. Christians believe the Bible is God's message to us, telling us about Himself. To say otherwise seemingly indicates a lack of understanding of the subject matter.

Or perhaps it just indicates an unbiased interpretation. The Old Testament is a Jewish holy document. Do you imagine that the Jews interpret "Us" as including Jesus? Or simply as God and his angels?

You can believe anything you wish to as a matter of faith, of course. Just because you believe it fervently doesn't make you automatically an expert on the subject, however. You are still making interpretations. It is a mistake to assume that I have no "background" just because I am not dogmatic in my interpretations.

The fact remains that Jesus is mentioned nowhere in the actual old testament holy documents. That is the only point I was making. I realize that contrary interpretations exist, but if one straightforwardly takes the bible at its word then Jesus came later and the holy spirit came later, too.

In the beginning there was God.

This is a loaded phrase used by both advocates and critics alike that is truly problematic in discussions. There are literally thousands of Christian Sects with varying beliefs. Admittedly many, if not most, of these differences are esoteric issues for theologians, but many are pretty fundamental. I think you can say that all Christians believe in one God and that they believe in immortality after death. After this it seems like all else is up for debate. There isn't even a universal belief in the nature of Christ and His relationship with God. Some believe they are one in the same; some believe He is just the best and wisest of men; and there are those who believe His divinity is more than man, but less than God Himself. As another example, consider the following:
Now many Christians and even many Catholics will disagree with this position, but regardless of the position taken in this debate, both sides are Christian. The point is that advocates of Christianity should use a little humility before speaking for all Christians on any particular matter, and critics should use a narrower brush before painting all Christians as having the same beliefs.

On this we can agree... and as rational human beings we can allow for each other's interpretations and biases. That is what freedom of religion is all about....Ain't America great?

everyone knows we are allowed to disagree. that still doesnt mean christianity is a good idea.

if you want you are allowed to teach your kids that 4 plus 4 equals 11. it is still incredibly stupid to do so.

C'mon Martin, can't you do better than to call others stupid? I know it makes you feel better, especially since the Mets are abysmal (even with Pedro) but you should do better. If you want to believe that you somehow own the "moral high ground" based on your assumption that there is no God then so be it. Whatever gets you through the day....BTW, instead of calling others silly names why not try to convince them of your viewpoint?...Oh that's right...it would open the door to ridicule by others wouldn't it Martin....careful, someone may call you stupid! :)

That's funny right there. Anybody will laugh at that. That's right!

As if anyone on here is going to convince someone else to change their viewpoints concerning religion or politics.
