I I think even after an official story is released, there will be items that led to this that will stay in house. Miles has run a very clean program as far as keeping players out of trouble and has shown that he is not afraid to cut key players if they act up on a regular basis. Maybe it was grades, maybe he openly showed frustration on not being the starter and maybe he just doesn’t have what it takes... I am sure we will find out something, but not all of it. I am also sure they will focus in on trying to keep Zach Lee and bring in more QB's.. If the worst case played out and JJ and J Lee got hurt and Zach Lee left, there is always shepard……..~!!
Maybe Just maybe.......... Barrett Bailey has shown more than Chris did. Hes a walk-on who gave up other 'ships to go to LSU.
Crap I thought Garrett would be someone we could be a great QB. It seems like it has been several seasons since we had a solid several year starting QB. In fact I really cant think of someone that was the go to guy for 3 much less 4 seasons. Maybe its been like since the 90's I guess....
This is terrible news. We have been consistently thin at QB and now we are right back there again. How does a guy go from looking good in practice but needing a year or two to mature to not being SEC caliber? Something doesn't add up. I know a lot of y'all are not going to like this comment but I wouldn't be surprised if he took a hard look at Crowton's offense and QB development and decided it wasn't the best fit for him.
Whether he was asked to leave or he asked to leave himself, I bet a the major (behind the scenes) reason Garrett left has to do with making sure Zack Lee stays....and plays early. There's no reason to think that Zack Lee would come to LSU...pass up millions...just to be groomed for an eventual starting role several years down the road. I'm sure Coach Miles promised Zack Lee and his family that he'd see early playing time at QB. I believe Zack Lee wants to start and see how the NFL draft goes in 3 or 4 years. He already knows where he stands as far as baseball is concerned. I guess it boiled down to a choice between Chris Garrett or Zack Lee...and that is really a choice between an eventual starter in football or an eventual starter in football AND an immediate starter in baseball.
i have no inside info, but i wouldnt be surprised if the jlee shellshocked 08 season is the reason. the coaches now value game experience more than how they look in practice. garrett thinks he looks better than jl and/or jj but just found out he's tied for 3rd on the depth chart with an incoming.
and if that is the case, as harsh as this sounds, f' him if his ego couldnt take it. if he was number three, it was for a reason. but you dont pick up your toys and go home because of it. but if his scholly was pulled after a couple of years, something happened. either his ego bigger than his brain, or he truly did say he didnt want to take reps. if it was not wanting to take reps, i would suspect it was an ongoing problem and he was not stepping up and learning. how can he learn to be the qb of the team without taking reps? i do not see his scholly being pulled for no reason, or even a small one. this puts us in a possibly big hole and miles knows it. he has been down this road and the hole could sink his job and he knows it.
Shocking news and I'm not happy about the prospect of how thin this makes us at the QB position, which with our current players is tenuous at best. That said, I am sure that Miles and his coaching staff have a very good/solid reason for not continuing his scholly. I may not agree with it, but I am sure they have a solid plan in place to make sure we don't end up in a situation like we have been over the past 2 seasons. Or at least I would hope so. If not, I am a bit scared of the possible worst scenario happening.
Man, another quarterback fiasco. We need to start looking at more qb's in recruiting instead of 1 every other year. If JJ and Lee both go down what the hell do we do then?
