Did he seriously tell Miles he wasn't ready to step up and take extra reps? That's mind-boggling for an SEC scholarship player. I guess if true it justifies the scholarship not being renewed.. We have not recruited well at quarterback in quite some time. There always seems to be some snag or unexpected problem and we have seen the results that tends to bear out..
I guess I see things in a different perspective. Last year, when JJ had troubles, people were saying that J Lee should be the starter. I figured, if he was better than JJ he would have been. Well, we got to see J Lee in a game and all I can say is that the coaches made the right choice last year in that department. It seems that if we truly got a GREAT QB, there wouldn’t really be a doubt. You give the guy 1 year under our system and they should be starting if he is in fact better than the last years starter. Obviously, J Lee or Garrett was not showing that they are better than JJ atm. Also, JJ is starting for his second year. If he starts for a third, would it then matter if Garrett leaves if Zach Lee stays for 3 years? I do not go off high school stats to much, but if Zach Lee stays and is really "that good" I don't think Garrett leaving will be a big deal. I think a problem we would run into is if Zach Lee doesn't stay at LSU. Then there is a gap to fill...
It's puts us two plays from a walk on. And need I remind everyone that Crowton has made JJ run the option, a play that invites your QB to get hit? It also makes the assumption that we retain Lee, and he has the focus to learn what the last QB could not in a yr, in order to be ready for backup. There are probably several undisclosed reasons as to why this kid transferred and there may not have been anything anyone could do to reverse it. But it still potentially puts our nuts in a crack.
Id like to know those reasons, Im reading, he was released and then he asked to be released, which one is it. We are in some serious shyt, if injuries happen, which there is a good chance they will considering our O-line.
First of all, I am skeptical of a LSU scholarship player saying he isn't ready to step up the reps or whatever. That is really hard to believe. More likely, Chris was upset that he was relagated to #3 behind JJ and JL. One could see how that would be considered a severe blow to his ego. Now if the coaches just decided to pull his scholarship after a couple of years, my concern about this team's direction is starting to mount. They picked him and spent a couple years on his development. Obviously, there is the lack of depth is a problem at QB in just sheer numbers. But my biggest concern is the repeated failure by the staff to bring a top 25 QB to LSU. I don't expect a Heisman candidate. I do expect LSU to have an above average player at this key position. Until proven wrong on the field, I am going to maintain that JJ and JL are not above average. I had hope that Chris may be better based on rumours out of the practices.
