Add a few more to the list, including Paul Dietzel. Bryant's record versus his pupils was 43-6. Check out the list in the bottom right side of this link: http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/specialreports/bear20/indexBear.htm
Very good statement, no kidding. I can live with that. I am a Bama alum but also a closet LSU fan even so much that I didn't oppose my daughter going ther.
I'd have to take the Bear. He was a winner. He won the same way that John Curtis wins in high school. Discipline! Coach Mac coached at the wrong time...While Bear Bryant was coaching. Now, who would I have liked to play for more? Easy, Coach Mac. Bear seemed like if you made 1 mistake, you'd be gone. Mac allowed mistakes to be made and let the player learn and correct them.
Re: Re: Cholly Mac or the Bear I would have to say that I would have "liked" playing for Mac more than for the Bear and would have enjoyed the experience more but to have played for the Bear and survived the experience would be something like surviving Navy Seal training or Delta Force training. I might not have enjoyed it but I would be a better man for the experience. Not to say that a lot of Mac's players aren't better men for the experience of playing for Mac.
Bama has only 7 national championships. On;y four of them are undisputed. I will never be convinced otherwise that the ;egacy of Bear Bryant is cheating.
