I don't want anyone to gloss over this fact. A lot of the reason the LSU's defense was upset was with how many penalties WVU were doing but not getting called for. The Personal Foul Penalty on Mo was a clear example of that. They pushed him 3 times eventually to the ground before Mo retaliated but the penalty was called on him. Also the RR (I think it was RR) pass where he was mugged at the line and brought to the ground was not called. They actually PICKED UP the flag on that one. I think when you combine all the holding and bad no calls or miss calls plus the change in climate (higher altitude) LSU's defense did what was needed on them. Bend but not break. Let's also remember that LSU's numbers would be gaudy like that too if not for 4 turnovers giving them short field positions to work with and great special team plays.
The D-Line played containment all night to protect against the underneath route. The few times they really tried to bring pressure it opened us up to the big play or we got a turnover. I take nothing away from WVU and their line. They protected extremely well. But they also didn't face the kind of pressure we typically bring. That in itself exposes the secondary. The yards wouldn't concerned me. The missed tackles do...a little. One game of bad tackling and we still win in blowout fashion. It happens. I expect a much better effort against Kentucky on tackling. Gonna need the consistency for the speed and scheme Florida will bring. That's when it's time to end the Rainey for Heisman talks.
it wasnt like it was intermittent. it was consistently, the entire game. they were even getting some pancake blocks in late. was almost like the pelini philosophy of maintaining your lane w/o rushing but they didnt run the ball so it wouldnt make sense.
I agree but I gotta go re watch the game again. It seems to me that they were doing a lot of quick plays which leave less time to get to the QB BUT I do also remember seeing that we were getting no pressure at all on the QB which concerned me quite a bit. Maybe our line was being worn down by the fast paced rhythm of their offense. Anyway I am glad we won't see an offense like that again anytime soon. I give them a lot of credit, they have a lot of heart also.
Glad to see him back. That guy is an absolute weapon. Stampley is another unsung hero. Reminds me a lot of Quinn Johnson.
Thank you shane......I knew that would be mentioned, but chiefs game plan was to sit back not blitz and keep everything in front of you. They had trouble scoring inside the 20 because the field shrinks tougher to throw it there. Dont panic people it was part of the game plan....no blitzes match up man to man...the only slight concern I had was to many missed tackles. LSU's D will be fine!!
Ya know, I thought Randle's drop and the missed FG to start the 2nd half was big and really gave WV momentum. We score there and it's 34-7 and the game is over, they know it, and it breaks their spirit.
Also, I hope next year's linebacker recruits don't take too long to develop. That area is a non mf'in factor for us. I honestly thought Hatcher was going to be good at LB in this scheme. He just has no football instincts.
I think the reason LSU d gave up that many yards is bc they were dedicated to the pass and when you put up that many pass attempts against a good D turnovers will occur. An all out passing offense is only going to get a team so far and we seen that tonight.
I just think parts of the D (linebackers, DB's) had an off-night. If you can have an off-night and win by 26... I think this was an anomalie.
