I am being serious, that's why I asked. I never pay attention to that stuff.

Well, this document won't let me copy any text from it or I would quote it extensively. But at least read the summary on page two.

Chinese Trade With The United States and The World

Our trade with China goes far beyond trinkets. They are taking large amounts of advanced-technology work that was once exclusively ours. Very bright Chinese graduate students are all over US campuses including LSU working on advanced research. Chinese scientists have green cards and work in US industry and higher education. I have a Chinese faculty member in my unit.

Our computers and flat panel monitors are made in China. Our ipods are made in china. Our clothing is made in China. Our communication equipment, etc. In fact a look at Made in China may be an eye-opening experience for you.

    Jeeezus...

It makes you wonder what exactly the US does.

I'm impressed Red - good, extensive information. I appreciate that.

I'm sure we could find cheap labor in other places, in fact almost any country compared to America, but a trade embargo with China would be very devastating in the short run. American consumers would raise all hell. Would the President be willing to do this?

Also, according to the document you linked, it says that China is a chief exporter in many goods, even purposely selling their products below market price. They don't import a whole lot. This means good news for the businesses, bad news for China's domestic consumers and suplimenting these businesses has to be hell on the Chinese government.

It doesn't seem that they can keep this up for ever. Wouldn't allowing them to stay on this path of self-destruction work?

We can and we do (pick a SE Asian nation), but those little guys in China are awfully industrious. And CHEAP! Their marginal rates and quality are simply unrivaled for many industries. That won't last forever as their industrial might grows (and the working class with it...to some extent.)

John Kerry should immediately go to Taiwan, call a press conference, and yell into the microphone . .

I read a great article recently...Can't remember if it's a NYT online or just a mywaynews source...

Said that the South China Seas is a completely American controlled area, and that will probably be more a powderkeg than Taiwan or North Korea...Seems that piracy in this area-controlled completely by the US Navy-has become a nearly 8 billion dollar business each year, and growing.

The area is rife with modern day-and I'm not making this up-pirates. Stealing of everything from Nike Shox to Nike Driver's to Compaq's and other electronic equipment...
