I only read the article originally linked here and the one that came up on my google home page from the AP. The original article and the one Red linked seem to have a lot more specuatlion and commentary. The AP article is pretty straight forward containing little opinion or conjecture. It seems pretty level handed and the kind of article I would rather garner an opinion from.

I don't think the issue was the activities themselves per se, but the fact that it is claimed that certain top justice department officials and perhaps Congress were not in the loop.

The following articles would have you believe otherwise:

Congress Authorized CIA to Develop Secret Al Qaeda Plan, Former Official Says"

Cheney Getting a 'Bum Rap' on CIA, ex-officials say

Sounds to me that because this program was never actually implemented and that there was no wrong-doing. In my opinion, it seems the Dems are just trying to cover Pelosi's a$$.

This was a different situation. She said the CIA misled Congress about waterboarding, not that they necessarily misled Congress in general. She was very specific. And here's a source for you: Pelosi says CIA misled Congress about waterboarding

So the CIA was devising a plan to go out and destroy Al Qaeda. It never became operational! I'm sorry, but what's wrong with us trying to go out and destroy those responsible for 9/11? Furthermore, what's wrong with us trying to be covert about it? People were up in arms about Bush being open about the CIAs interrogation techniques (which I agree with, personally, we don't need to know that sort of thing). So now that we weren't open about this it's an issue? What gives? And if it's such a big deal, why does this seem to be a partisan witchhunt?

Dont be an idiot, you are just playing the other side as if they never do anything wrong in your eyes.

Read the thread. Don't just react. There's nothing here. Red sees a chance to bash Bush/Cheney and, as usual, he jumps on it.

I'm not going to apologize for supporting every effort to keep us safe from terrorists, or whatever the hell your boy wants to call them.

I dont need to read the thread, I have read the story from several outlets. But thanks for the advice, you dont have to apologize. I wasnt following Reds comments, just my own thoughts.

Obama says he doesn't want to go after the previous administration. Holder apparently feels differently. Who's in charge here?

Maybe we need a "Chain of Command Czar".

So basically Cheney put together a secret program to kill terrorists and kept the CIA from telling Congress about it. If this is the case, what's the problem?

P.S. I'm actually not being sarcastic here.
