They can't just pour money all over a guy who hasn't earned it. Chavis didn't start out with that kind of money either. But LSU has shown that it is willing to pay top dollar for top talent that produces. We have the highest paid assistants in the country. I think they will go for top DC talent and pay for it if they have to. But it will come with incentives that have to be met to move to the top.

I rarely agree with BRETT on football, but I think he is right in that this was not just about the money. There is something else going on.

Maybe Chavis got upset that Cameron was hired for $4,667 more than Chief was making. Not much money but he may have felt disrespected by the AD. I mean, we lost the best track coach in America to Texas A&M because he had won 21 national championships and then LSU hired Pokey Chatman for more money than he was making. It sometimes doesn't take much for a marketable guy to look for greener pastures.

Maybe Aleva thinks that Chavis has peaked and was unwilling to grant a long guaranteed contract at top dollar to him. Lots of younger defensive coaches out there with much upside. Which means that he was discretely given an open door to walk through and an opportunity to get the money elsewhere. It is clear that LSU has the money to offer him more if money was the issue.

LSU should have ante upped the money, the track program has suffered not been the same.

I agree, there is a lot more to this than JUST the money.

I sat it Tiger Stadium through many of those 5-7 seasons and worse. I know LSU football is in way better shape now. However that doesn't make me blind to what's going on now. It also doesn't mean I can't discuss the positives and negatives of the current state of the program. It's the people that only see one side and try to stop all debate that are the retards. Yes, that puts you on the list.

Miles is locked up until 19 and a four year deal would keep him with us until then. This is deeper, maybe on Chief's part, maybe on Miles part. There was probably some tension between the two which is why he left. Either Chief insulted Les on the piss poor offense or Miles said something to him about the D blowing games the last couple of years and it probably escalated and feelings were hurt. He left because he is no longer happy at LSU, why, we prob. will never know.

But dad said he enjoyed what he was doing, living in BTR and working with Les, so none of that can be true.

Chavis' defense improved this season, but took a step back vs ND. Last year's defense was horrible given what the O was able to do. So, in the end, fuck him. There's plenty of blame to go around with an 8-5 record. And seems to be cracks in the Miles paternal household.

It wasn't the money . . . it was perceived disrespect. There had been long friction between Henry and Skip Bertman. Henry had four times the national championships, but Bertman got all the acclaim, the facilities, the paycheck, and eventually the AD job being Henry's boss. Henry just didn't understand that track does not draw spectators and TAF donors. Hell, baseball didn't until Skip got there. There was bad blood there and Henry was just waiting for an opportunity to bolt after Skip became AD.

No one has tried to stop all debate, that is total bullshit. People will disagree here and you had best get used to it. People get tired of the bitching and say so. That doesn't stop any rants.

In my experience, the only retards are those that invoke the word retard when someone disagrees with them.

Yes Miles does bring a shitload of talent. LSU lacks pass rushers, it's that simple. That said, Chavis turned the LSU D to a very strong unit. When you consider how often their on the field because the O is so often in for a three and out.

On the flip side, Miles also brings in a ton of talent to the O. Where is his criticism in how inept the O looks. Hell, you could have taken East St John under Perrilloux and they would have looked better than the LSU O. Again, you can't keep making excuses for Miles and slam the OC and DC or position coaches. Eventually it comes down to the head man.

We agree that the prevent D Chavis called costed LSU the Bama game. Considering how many games it lost over the last few years you would think Miles would finally overrule him. He didn't, as the HC he it also to blame.

You might want to read the post I was responding to. My retard was a response to his. Also there are quite a few that try to crush debate when it doesn't follow their line of thinking and he is definitely one. People also get tired of all the ass kissing not just the bitching. The sky isn't falling, but Miles isn't pumping fairy dust out of his ass either. The truth is somewhere in the middle. There should be much bitching after this season.

I said I though Chavis became predictable & complacent the last couple of years. Doesn't mean I think he's a bad coach at all.

There were two things that I thought were interesting this year. Miles seemed really miffed after the Bama game...a near repeat of 2012, especially at the Defensive performance. The second, was the low number of Defensive committments during the season. Since Toliver has been committed for a long time, I believe we only got 3(?) Defensive commits. And another as it was unfolding.

Hopefully we can stil pull in Phillips. LSU is desperate need of DL play. We do not at all see any future studs on the DL.

I think we can agree that next year is a pivotal year. Reality or perceived, things are not where they should or need to be right now at LSU. I will say this, Miles often does his best job when his back is against the wall.
