Just sounds too good to be true. Altho, he was on the Dallas staff with Miles. Hopefully they have a good working relationship.
Agreed. I don't want to jump at the first name that comes along, but having a guy with that much NFL experience can only be good for us. I would think that would be attractive to recruits also.
They would have to throw Muschamp $ at Kirby Smart to make that kind of lateral move, weren't willing to do it with Chavis, not going to do it with Smart. This Pendergast guy looks like he has a decent resume. Would also consider going after Kevin Steele. Have to wonder if there's something else behind the scenes than just "the clause" to make Chavis leave. Seems awfully petty to me, but then again, this whole season has been Jekyll and Hyde.
NFL exp. aside... He turned 2 Pac12 program Defenses around almost overnight (SC/Cal), and made them very very good. I actually think our D would be better than Chavis' D under Pendergrast.
looks like they're reading our minds, hahaha. http://lsu.247sports.com/Bolt/Report-LSU-reaches-out-to-former-USC-DC-34292245
A little more on Clancy. "USC led the Pac-12 in total defense, allowing 335.2 yards per game, and finished second in the conference in scoring defense (allowed 21.1 points per game) and rushing defense (allowed 120.6 yards per game). The Trojans were third in the FBS in red-zone defense.....Pendergast did so with an extremely limited roster, losing top pass rusher Morgan Breslin for more than half the season and using just 13 players in a 20-17 upset of eventual Pac-12 champion Stanford. Nine of 14 opponents scored two or fewer offensive touchdowns against USC, including Fresno State and its high-powered passing offense in a 45-20 Las Vegas Bowl triumph for the Trojans." My biggest compliment to Clancy is how he handled Ed O's ridiculous tantrum departure. The players were really upset that Ed left and in their minds, he didn't get a fair shot. They didn't want to play for anyone but him.....it's all about emotion with Ed O which is probably why he'd be better with just a line, than as a DC. Clancy provided leadership. The defense and the entire team rallied and played a great bowl game despite being without O. Players said later that they were prepared to shut down but that Clancy turned that around. Sarkisian was a dumbshit for letting him go.
According to the internet, which is always accurate, Pendergast was on the coaching wish list for Washington State. I know LSU can outbid that school. And if it's true that he loves living in/being close to Dallas, that's an advantage for us, too.
LSU meeting with Sexton tonight.. Trying to lure Muschamp to LSU. Wanting to coach with Miles, and buyout could be an issue. I don't want to reveal my sources source.. But it's good.
