If I wanted a free day to screw off, i would just take a personal day or vacation day. Voting is something important to me, something I wouldnt take the day to screw off for.
It was my understanding that you wanted a sample of opinions as to why people would or wouldn't want a national holiday for elections. Somehow it turned into you telling us how great of an American you are.
That answer wasnt actually directed towards you or I would have quoted your response. Im not telling you how great of an American I am, I said voting was important to me. My response is to explain that some people might not have the opportunity to go and vote because of job reasons or whatever, that it might be important to them to vote, but they dont have the opportunity because of the day its on. Clear enough?
Then lets just have a voting week. I'm guessing that there is no way to please everybody who wants to vote. Like Red said, hopefully they will come up with a solution eventually as technology advances. But I don't think it will have anything to do with holidays, or changing the day we vote.
the problem, as i see it, with election day being a holiday, is that there are too many people that would use it as just a day to go to the lake or whatever. those that would use the day as intended, then wonderful. i just dont think the very low voter turn out in this country is due to the majority of those that dont vote not being able to, but because they dont care. that is why i see apathy as the bigger problem for voter turnout. as stated before, that is why there are laws (at least in this state) to insure that people who want to vote can, without retribution by their employer. i think the two hours is sufficient to address the not having time issue.
how about a voting month.:rolleye33: technology will eventually cure some of the problems. It will never be full proof.
The voting week comment was a joke. And it's fool proof. And I know, I watched Man of the Year last night. 2 hours I'll never get back. Kind of like voting. :hihi:
Actually i think we are both wrong. It's foolproof. foolproof: Definition, Synonyms and Much More from Answers.com Can't argue with that.
