https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-12-team-college-football-playoff-sources-say Kinda torn on this. On one hand, it will make some games less meaningful, like LSU and Alabama have been in years past, but on the other, it will make a lot more games more meaningful, like LSU and A&M at the end of the year. If both teams go into that game 9-2, there could still be a playoff birth on the line. We probably would have been there in 2018, and the way Burrow was starting to take off at the end of the year, who knows.
The NCAA’s decisions do not make sense. Instead of expanding from 4 to 12 teams why not try a 6 or 8 team format first. What’s next? 12 teams with 2 play in games?
It's all about money, money and making more money! Unfortunately, that's what college football has become over the years. We should probably remove the word college all together because it has nothing to do with getting an education, which should be the most important. Reportedly, this could make some conferences more than 100 million dollars each season, depending on how many teams make the playoff.
Greg Sankey has been very vocal about wanting 12. He’s the one leading the charge, the NCAA doesn’t have anything to do with the playoff and has no financial interests in it. In fact, the 11 presidents and chancellors that make up the CFP board even discussed governing football themselves, outside of the NCAA, on their call last month. https://www.espn.com/college-footba...ing-how-college-football-governed-sources-say
Because it used to be if you lost that game you were done, no path the the SEC championship game which was required to move to the next level. Now, if you drop that game you can still advance if your record is strong enough.
