no doubt the polls do mean something, but they shouldnt. College football is sad right now in that a team can win anywhere from 9-11 games in a tough conference and not even sniff the title game b/c of 2 loses. 2 loses!! With the new 12 game schedules, you could win 5/6 of your games and not have a shot to play for it all. You lose 2 in the NFL, you win your division and prolly have home field. If you win 5/6 of your games in MLB you you win like 130 + games and will have home field throught play offs. NBA basketball if you win 5/6 of your games you finish 69-13 and will have home court. CBB you do that and your going to be a 1 or 2 seed in the tourney. Yet, in CFB you can lose only 1 or 2 games and your screwed. You lose 2 games and it means the difference b/t a title shot and a huge pay day and a smaller bowl game with a smaller pay out. It is a joke. Bowls are a joke. I know its old but why do all other sports have play offs yet college football feels they must be different. Basically going into a college football season you know where your predetermined to play in the post season. You lose one you'll play here, if you lose 2 you'll play here. There is no suspense. If we finish 2nd we play here. Completley flawed. Sorry I had to vent when I saw this whole garbage about preseason polls. It's amazing that preseason polls are actually taken in to account of who should play for the title. It's weak.
all the things that you said about how it's a shame that losses count so much in college football......imho are what make college football great. the competitive spirit is head and shoulders above the nfl and add the fact that one loss is the end of a dream and you get 100% every play... instead of star wide receivers that say they take plays off
I disagree. You mean to tell me that you can get screwed on one call in a season and it costs you a chance fore the title?
It could have happened to us last year. Let's say we beat Georgia. That Auburn call would have cost us the title...It's rare, but it could happen I guess...
I know, that is my point. He argues that it makes it more exciting that you can't lose any games. I disagree. It amazes me how one bad call can cost a team a chance to play for a title.
