This all comes down to the situation to me. Clearly I hunt and fish a lot and kill plenty animals so in most cases I support any legal hunting 100% even if it's not something I would personally do simply bc if hunters go against each other that just makes the antis that much more powerful. Anyways like I said before there are situations in which these hunts make a lot of sense. Old male not contributing to the herd and even hurting the herd by killing younger males. Be it rhinos or lions or whatever. In those situations it makes good sense to basically that animal to a "hunter" who brings in money and takes out 1 animal that was hurting the younger ones. Say you have a big old male rhino and he is killing or seriously injuring every other rhino he crosses paths with. Of course there are only so many rhinos left so do you let that 1 rhino who no longer breeds kill 20 other rhinos or do you take some rich guys money and let him kill that 1 and save the other 20? Same situation happens with lions and elephants and there is similar outrage online every time word gets out about it. For whatever reason some just can't understand the management involved which seems pretty obvious.....kill 1 rogue as they call them to save a much bigger number. Add to that that many farmers in those places used to kill very non-cattle animal they saw so the livestock had less competition for the resources until they discovered how profitable it is for them to let that land revert back to the wildlife and sell safaris rather than farm it. So where all the animals were being killed now only the older larger trophy animals are killed allowing the rest to exist and breed naturally keeping a healthy population of the native wildlife where had it been a farm they'd have all been killed. It is a very intertwined relationship between hunters, animals, and conservation. All that said that doesn't mean that this situation is a good one. I just don't know. As I said before they was its being reported looks bad I don't trust anything the media is saying 100% at all being their job has become to stir up as much controversy as possible. As far as the animal being lured off a preserve and having a tracking collar neither of those things really matter IMO as long as everything was legal which again I don't know. What I mean by that there are plenty areas where you can hunt right by a sanctuary. Here in MS we have a very popular area called Noxubee that has a big no hunting area. Well guess where one of the most popular places to hunt is? Yep the boundary of the no hunting area. People sit there and wait for deer to cross off the no hunting area. It's all wild deer and nothing wrong with it at all as long as they don't shoot till the deer crosses the line. To make this even more similar is there are several deer with tracking collars for MSU studies but again they are wild deer and no issue at all with shooting them MSU just requests that you call them to come get their collar back but even that isn't required. Kinda rambling now I know but anyhow I'm not saying I support this specific situation as it does look bad I'm just saying that there are times when trophy hunting makes sense both for the health of a herd even one that might be endangered although it's not something I ever see myself wanting to do even if I had the money. I'll stick with what I need to fill the freezer.

What you say makes a lot of sense and I support hunting 100% even though I don't hunt anymore. I understand the need to remove old lions, rhinos, elephants, ect from the herd when their presence is harmful to the greater good of the herd. I even understand that charging some rich guy big bucks to shoot an animal that is to be culled anyway benefits the people and the economy of the area.

What I don't understand is why anybody would want to go shoot and old lion or rhino by having it driven into easy firing range and all the hunter has to do is aim and pull the trigger. That's not a sport. The hunter should be made to go out into the jungle alone with a rifle, one bullet, a map and a compass. That would be sporting.

the problem lies when there are no rogue animals to take out yet you have dr mcdouche with a 100k burning a hole in his pocket. and 1000s of other mcdouches doing the same. guess what happens? cecil and company get taken out. money always wins out.

Anybody who doesn't understand the outrage is a fool. Cecil was almost like the official "National Pet" of Zimbabwe. How would you feel if somebody lured your dog out of your yard and shot it?
