Where in Mississippi did you catch the crabs? I have caught a lot in the surf at Grand Isle but @KyleK is probably right about there being too much fresh water. I don't have any experience fishing in Mississippi but I remember that around Waveland the water is very shallow for a long way off the beach. Is it too shallow for crabs?
no such thing at all as to shallow for crabs. like to have deeper water close but def not required. There are all from Biloxi up on a shallow 3ft flat next the channel which is about 10 feet. but other than the channel it is shallow for miles around.
180 crabs this morning and gigging 10 nice flounder last night. One of a bull at 25” and 6.8lbs Shame the water was so filthy all summer just now clearing up enough to get em. Pic won’t post says file to big prob bc it’s from phone try again tomorrow on work desktop
after all the eating was done only had a few crabs left. Not enough to worry about picking em out to put up and had some bacon wrapped cream cheese stuffed backstrap smoking so tried smoking some of the crabs. Backed and cleaned up and basted em good with some zaterans butter sauce stuff my brother had. Threw em in the smoker for an hour of heavy smoke and good lord were they fantastic.
