Carr Talks Winning More Than Retiring (Talk in Mich. of Lloyd Carr Retirement)

lol sorry man, not to hate, but you could put in ND for UM in that paragraph and you couldn't tell the difference.

 

Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban..........come to think about it, Weiss is the only one who's been successful at the pro level and not college. :grin:

 

I disagree with that on several points:

Michigan is a football factory with an atrocious graduation rate where its football players, namely its african american players, have an abysmal graduation rate.

As such, with no concerns if its players can meet the academic standards of the university, UM exploits its players and stockpiles greater amount of football talent, untethered by how well those players do academically. When ND loses, it loses to teams with superior, deeper talent whereas UM loses to teams that it has just as much, if not, more talent. But, with Weis recruiting, that talent gap will soon shriken and ND will start winning those games again.

UM schedules one or two MAC schools a season to pad up its record. ND plays the service academies to honor a rivalry that goes back decades when teams like Army were among the top teams in the country.

And, the service academies are actually much tougher opponents than the creampuffs UM schedules. Just look at the way Navy beat the MAC champion 20-0 in that bowl game.

And, now UM is playing against Div-1AA teams such as Applachia State.

 

Shriken? Is that painful? Is it a good thing? Have you been hitting the whiskey?

And nd treats ALL it's African Americans with such dignity and respect...........like say Ty Willingham.

The service academies are not considered amongst the elite of college football and habitually scheduling them is doing nothing for the irish program. But I think it's great that Coach Weiss is a trend setter. Not everyone will be able to claim 3 straight Commander In Chief trophies.

And, Coach Willingham was treated with more dignity and respect than he deserved. He preferred to go play golf all day rather than coach or recruit.

 

Bill Walsh is another coach who's won multiple SB rings, but couldn't find the same success at Stanford. Of course, the academic standards at Stanford certainly posed a barrier that those other coaches didn't have to face. Looking at the lack of football success Stanford has just makes me appreciate all the more what ND has been able to accomplish even though both schools have the same, rigorous academic standards.

 

This article certainly got my attention. LSU almost snagged the father to succeed Cholly Mac, could the son replace an Ann Arbor-bound Miles?
