How convenient that I live in TX then, eh? Regardless of primary rules in La., you can vote for whomever you damn well please in the general election. Ever hear of a Reagan democrat? Did google not explain that one?

The only fool here is you John, and you make yourself look more so with every post on this subject, which you apparently think is about me. I know full well what my objections are and full well that I have clearly stated them. You have zero argument to show the woman is qualified and must resort to this. I am sorry google can't make you more convincing.

Perhaps you should upgrade your search engine to "ask.com".

The primary reason Kennedy may have a lock on the senate seat is because the governor Paterson will likely run for re-election in a couple of years and he wants her influence and particularly her money behind him. Paterson is not thinking of New York or the nation or even Kennedy. He is thinking about himself.

You continue to confuse the objective issue of "being qualified" (which she legally is) with the very subjective issue of "deserving it".

Just because she doesn't deserve it in your eyes (or mine for that matter) is irrelevant to the issue of her qualifications. The qualifications to be Senator are very basic. Caroline, Dude, SabanFan, and Red all qualify.

The other issue you don't seem to accept is that she is going to be an asset to the democrats because of her influence and fund-rasing abilities. Republicans and independents would rather see someone more substantial in terms of experience, but she fits the bill for democrats, just as Swartzenegger fit the bill for Repubicans, despite the fact that his main political experience was being married to a Kennedy!

You think? Other than maybe Bill Clinton, it's hard to think of somebody who would be a bigger asset to the Dems than Caroline. She is buddy-buddy with Obama, Ted Kennedy, and who knows how many other powerful figures both in their party and not in their party.

She is both extremely wealthy herself and an excellent fund-raiser which will significantly help her when it comes to winning the elections that keep her in the Senate for the Dems.

Her name carries considerable star-power (as evidenced by how she had four books published that each became a New York Times bestseller), which will also help her significantly when it comes to winning the elections that keep her in the Senate for the Dems.

When it comes to being a Senator (passing laws, serving on committees, etc), she will be a great asset to the Dems because of her legal knowledge (Columbia law school, wrote two legal texts, serves on the board of directors of a major entity that does legal work all over the nation) and because of the all the experience she being one of the major power-brokers in charge of numerous entities.

Finally, by having her in the Senate, it will only increase her star power and fund-raising ability, which will be used to benefit the objectives the Dems have as a whole.

If was a hard-core Republican, I'd be doing everything I could to keep her from getting in the Senate, including trying to paint her as "unqualified" and making it look like the Dems are trying to pull a fast-one, trying to do something unethical.

But reality is, the US Constitution says that the state government appoints the replacements for vacated Senate seats, and the NY state govt apparently gave this power to their governor. According to the Constitution, he has to choose a US Citizen at least 30 years of age that lives in the state of New York.

If the GOP is able to pressure the Dems enough to where they don't feel comfortable appointing Caroline to the Senate, then they should think about trying to talk Bill Clinton into taking his wife's seat. He is a US Citizen at least 30 years of age that lives in the state of New York.

I was not a fan of Palin for VP, since McCain was old and I didn't think she was ready to be president. From what I've seen however, Sara was more qualified to be pres. than Caroline is to be Senator from NY. I read the upstate NY'ers are not impressed with her, and I'm with them. Just more rich folks with family name being given the controls, an embarrassment IMO.

Caroline Kennedy will be hosting the Kennedy Center Honors, starting in about 10 minutes on CBS. It is the sixth year in a row that Caroline has hosted it.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual award ceremony at the JFK Center for Performing Arts in Washington, DC that awards artists for their achievements the performing arts.

The Kennedy Center is our national center for performing arts (similar to our National Gallery of Art). It is also the home of our National Symphony Orchestra.
