Give me a break . . . Adams - father, son Kennedy - brothers, sons, nephews Clinton - husband, wife Bush - father, son, brother Long - father, brother, son, nephew, cousin Boggs - husband, wife Landrieu - father, daughter, son
Bush also had the grandfather, Prescott, who was a US Senator from CT The Adams had Samuel Adams (Continental Congress, Governor, etc), his nephew (a US Congressman whose son became a US Congressman, etc), John Adams (US President, etc), John Adam's son-in-law William (US Congressman), John Adam's son-in-law John (US Senator, etc), John Adam's son Thomas (state legislature, judge), John Adam's son John Quincy (US President, etc whose son became a state rep and whose other son became a US Congressman, etc, and whose son-in-law became a US Senator, etc, and whose grandson became a state rep and whose other grandson became a US Congressman, and whose grandson-in-law became a US Senator, etc), etc etc. The Adams family was ridiculous. But yeah, the list of political families throughout American history goes on and on and on and on and on and on. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_political_families
There is no valid argument for this woman to become a lawmaker. Pretending she is qualified because she can raise $(join a pac instead), or because other families have a propensity towards politics is retarded. It doesn't matter what Bush, Clinton, Rockefeller, Roosevelt, have done in the past. It doesn't change the fact that she is grossly unqualified for the U.S. senate and her appointment, is a complete joke. Further proving that we would be better off if a sinkhole swallowed the entire congress and we started over from scratch.
Officially she is qualified to be a Senator--she's a citizen and she's old enough--those are the only legal qualifications. Hillary Clinton never had held public office before she held the same seat, either. Congress has plenty of first-time politicians. Astronaut John Glenn had never held public office before becoming a Senator, neither had NBA player Bill Bradley. Actors Reagan and Swartzenegger never held office before becoming governors of California. There is nothing that says senators have to be professional politicians. We would probably be better off if there were fewer of them.
The very fact that a relative followed another relative into public office does not suggest they feel they have an entitlement to an office. None of the families mentioned above had any sense of entitlement, but I feel the Kennedys do. The way the public fawns all over them whenever they announce their candidacy feeds that sense of entitlement. My opinion is not based on anything objective; it is purely subjective and certainly open to argument. I could be dead wrong. This is just the sense I get from the Kennedy family; as if they are entitled to this or that office simply because of who they are.
As I have indicated before, at least these people had jobs before entering public service. The only real job Caroline Kennedy had was with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1980s. I am not sure how long she was there or what her position was. Other than that, she has been a professional celebrity.
You are misinformed. She has worked as a photographer, interned at the New York Daily News, and as a research assistant in the film and TV department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Kennedy is an attorney, writer, editor and serves on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations. This is real work-it's not hanging out on the Riviera. Suggesting that she seeks publicity like Paris Hilton is also way off the mark. Caroline Kennedy has tried not to be in the limelight despite her fame. Look, I wouldn't appoint her either because i don't care for most Kennedy politics, but trying write her off because she's a rookie politician is a mistake. Politics is all about influence and Caroline Kenndy is influential. You know this to be true.
