LSU football is bigger than money. Red, how many people would you estimate are still being kept at the PMAC?
I said there MAY be a wrap-up in the PMAC soon. I might not happen soon enough, though. I'm sure that the AD and chancellor have a better grasp than anybody else and will make the right call.
At the risk of sounding too much like a girl.... LSU has to weigh in the factor of reputation. If it looks like they are being insensitive to the situation in New Orleans, or to those that are being brought to BR, the black eye is going to cost a lot in the long term. And some things you can't buy back with money. New Orleans is still in rescue mode. Recovery hasn't even started yet (unless I missed something yesterday or this morning, I had to turn the tv off yesterday and leave it off to clear my head a bit) and that is going to be incredible difficult. The magnitude of recovery is going to overwhelm everyone. I keep saying, and I will say it again. (And again, if needed.) I trust Miles, Bertman, and O'Keefe. I think they will look at the whole picture, weigh all the factors, and make what they feel is the best decision not only for LSU sports, but for LSU as a whole, and for the State of Louisiana.
On a lighter note (before the flaming starts).... What better way to feed a bunch of people and make them feel at home (as much as possible) then tailgating at Tiger Stadium?
I get the humor. But, imagine all the people who are displaced roaming around campus on gameday, asking for food and handouts.....you know this will be happening, it is unfortunate but predictable. it would just be an uncomfortable situation in my opinion.
Playing devils advocate here (before the flaming starts). How crappy will people feel that had little before and nothing now, to be watching people who have nice homes, porking out and boozing it up in front of their second home which is a $100K-$150K motor home.
I don't know. We've been pretty busy in my office working 12 and 16-hour days offering computer support to the federal mapping guys that descended on us Tuesday. I haven't been to the PMAC, but it is a triage center. People aren't being kept there very long, just categorized and sent to hospitals or released. What I've observed from my office window is that there aren't as many helicopter arrivals. There still may be many ambulances arriving.
Yes, you're right. It's gonna be interesting to say the least to see how they handle this situation. And while there is that voice inside my head that screams "The game MUST be played!", I at the same time realize that there are things that matter more in life than football sometimes.... Even more than Tiger football.
What is the last day to make a decision about this? A couple of points to ponder. If the game is played in Shreveport the tax dollars stay in LA and maybe more folks come in to gamble from Texas. The state could probably use the revenue right now. LSU realizes less than half of the projected revenue for its budget. If the game is a swap with ASU on the home and home, then LSU is only out the money for the budget this year and gets the full revenue of 90,000 at home next year. Isn't the profit on a home game in the 3 million neighborhood? Infrastructure being rebuilt gets a positive jolt from the extra home game, the whole BR community gains. I like the idea of the game at home this year (emotional), but can see why it may not be a great idea. Fans would be in an out, little money spent in the local economy. LSU is not all about the dollars, but the best deal for the school and region may be to just swap with ASU. ESPN could comp some extra spots for the Red Cross as part of LSU moving the game, it would make it easier on them if you allowed the game to be moved. Dang, I am talking myself into saying take the game to AZ.
