He is getting $1.7M from us regardless of whether he takes a job or not. I guess we wanted a quick severance and didn’t want to risk owing him >$3M should he not find work. I hope O&E are worth it.

Isn't E the guy whose offense only managed 10 pts against the Gators and blanked in the Bama game in 2016?

Does that mean we don’t have to pay his buyout now?

WE won't. Unless you are one of the fat cats who has money to burn and are willing to pony up for whatever it takes.

We as in the university we love. I thought that’s how buyouts worked you get a job you don’t get paid as much, or is it you don’t look for a job you don’t get paid as much.

That part was negotiated. It was in Canada's contract that if he was fired he had to be paid the full $3 million left on the contract minus whatever he earned in another coaching job. By waiving the new job earnings clause LSU was able to pay him $1.7 million and walk away. Contracts involve lawyers and lots of legal mumbo jumbo and all that is negotiated at the time of hiring by lawyers for both sides. The terms of any contract can be changed if both parties agree. Take the case of Kevin Sumlin. He had 2 years at $5 million per remaining on his deal. He must have had a great agent when he was hired because A&M had to pay him a lump sum of the $10 million left on his contract within 60 days of his termination and when he gets another job he won't owe the faggies one red cent.

If the Canada money was being paid by LSU and was coming from the academic side and was taxpayer money I would be as pissed as all those fans who really don't understand how it all works.
