I think Coach Saban mentioned it in... the post game interview after MSU. Said he had gotten mail also. I can hardly believe that. I can relate to Coach Saban, I just wished I had a job where I could yell at people when they screw up also. don't think that would work at my job, but I see Coach Saban just being Coach Saban and he doesn't need to change a thing. Sporting News had that stupid, unaccountable "an SEC coach says..." feature in their preseason mag (auburn #1 wheeee...) and someone said "nick wears on his players, he coaches them HARD" then why does our team have such a strong character and positive outlook? Nick needs to keep doing it HIS way.
For some reason this reminds me of a part in raising arizona. FBI investigator: Do you have any disgruntled employees? Nathan Arizona: All my employees are disgruntled! I ain't runnin an damn Daisy Farm Sorry back on topic. I prefer a coach that gets in a players face when they screw up as opposed to one that babies them. This is one reason i think Saban makes a better college coach than he would an NFL coach. NFL probably aren't as responsive to that kind of coaching.
Some people get off on complaining ... and since we are 5-0 for the first time since 1973, they are working hard to find something wrong!
I had coaches that rode us hard but it is good for a player. As long as the criticism is legit and arent cut downs just to belittle the athlete. Saban isn't yelling at these guys beacuae he is just plain mean, he knows they can do the things they are supposed and is pushing them to do it.
Sorry, I don't think it's Nick's job to instill character and Christian values in these players (some of whom could be Jewish or Muslim). That is a job for their mamas, scoutmasters, and preachers. Nick's job is to instill football quality in these players.
I have never met a football, basketball or baseball coach who didn't sometimes yell at the players when they made a bonehead mistake. If players were so sensitive that they can't handle it they wouldn't be playing football.
I'm very confident that Coach Saban raises his voice only to players who have forgotten what they were supposed to do on a particular play, forgotten how to use the playing techniques that they've spent countless hours being taught by the Coach, and/or those players who are not giving 110 percent effort on every play. If a player does any of those things, he deserves to be corrected in the manner of Coach Saban's choosing. Those who don't like it should just watch Oprah, The Lifetime Channel and avoid football and real life.
Or he could be telling them they were not allow to eat after a loss like the just fired Arizona coach John Mackovic
Have these people ever seen Bill Cowher of the Steelers? He rips into his players all the time for messing up. I know he hasn't won a SB, but the Steelers have a successful team every year. So don't freak out cause Saban cares. If it's not broke don't fix it. In fact I hear Jimbo and the other coaches rip into the players more in practice than Saban. This is common practice for coaches everywhere. This isn't baseball folks.
