Can Jim Tressel win the NC without John Cooper's talent?

I agree VA, I thought I accidentally clicked on tigerdroppings at first. Hopefully this is just an exception to the rule, it has been so far.
Funny, I thought that's what the original post was all about... whining and making excuses for that game.

Suggesting Tressel cannot recruit the talent necessary for a NC is one of the funniest things I've read.

    Last 3 years, 3 top-10 picks (2 jrs) from JT's recruiting.

This year? Could lose 3 more jrs that could go #1 at their position. CB Jenkins, LB Laurinaitis, DE Gholston (depending on scheme/need, could be Campbell instead).
His 02 class was terrible? Were you serious with that line?

Smith (heisman), Clarett, Holmes (1st), Mangold (1st), Pitcock (AA), Hawk (AA, 1st), Sims (NFL starter), Carpenter (1st), Richardson (NFL starter), Datish (all-b10), Salley (all-b10), Downing (all-b10).
Love people who clutch to stereotypes when they can't watch football with their own eyes.

That game was the complete opposite of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Tressel stubbornly stuck with a spread passing attack to a fault. Pittman ran well all day, but rarely saw the ball. If they had been a run-heavy offense like you made up, they might have continued to exploit the size mismatch. Instead they allowed UF's tremendous rush ends to pin their ears back all game.
Clarett was very talented, but not the best recruit in that class. Sorry.
Again with the stereotypes, rather than intelligent scouting. The DBs & WRs were a lot slower in 02. Doss, Nickey were slow, but had remarkable instincts and execution. Gamble was athletic but not in Ginn or Gonzo's zipcode of speed, and especially not Jenkins or Vance. Speed is incredibly overrated, especially when it becomes the obsession while ignoring where games are actually won, up front.

The 02 unit DOMINATED up front. They had Dorsey spitting up blood all night (after the game), and were often able to collapse the pocket without blitzing.

hmm.....purple & gold?? this is an LSU forum

wrong again...apples & oranges. the illegal formation flag was picked up because it wasn't an illegal formation.....btw if your collection of little nuts played in the sec you might would have nosed bama out of the weed eater bowl

how's that worked out for you since cooper's been gone?

it does get old but what else do we have to do for the next 3 weeks. (are you really that proud of the accomplishments achieved in a 2 team conference when the other team owns you as badly as they do?)

    we try

we understand...it's kind of sad though...kind of like the kid who's convinced his old scarlet & grey bicycle is still pertinent when all of the other kids are driving to school

    ok

gee dad....you think this computer thing is the way of the future???

c'mom sparky, catch up.... of course if a conference doesn't want to play a ccg in fear of losing their precarious perch in the polls.....

    .

c'mon va...we don't believe in the greatness of the big 10. sorry. don't get offended when we question the legitimacy of your conference when by all indication it's not what it used to be.

3 weeks to go....do we need to pass out pacifiers for our visitors?

Well it wont be this year. Unfortunately they have to play the SEC again. Being the only school with two crystal footballs in the display case is going to be nice.

Yes, since CCG's work SO well in the B12 & ACC :)rolleye33: ) Nothing like the b12 north doormats or FSU's losing streak rewarded with a CCG.

Was Tenn really the 2nd best team in the SEC? Sure they beat a schizophrenic UGA team, but I think the bulldogs would have put up a much tougher fight in the CCG. Earlier this year Tenn was exposed vs Cal, but justified as merely a 5th/6th place SEC team by apologists.
