It has changed a lot since one of the recent hurricanes blew through there. I will try to remember to take some pics for you. I bet you remember that wooden floor, above ground store with a big spring and a bell on the door when you first drove in. We would often stop after our hunt to get a microwave burger. Microwave burgers were the shit back then. We didn't even have a micro at home or had just gotten one, possibly. There were $800.00 back then. My grandmother had given us our first one as a Christmas gift. If there are any specific places in Hackberry you'd like a pic of let me know.
Man, that was 50 years ago. I remember Hurricane Audrey did a number on Cameron/Holly Beach/Hackberry in 1957. A good friend of mine dated and eventually married a girl from Hackberry.
Yeah but I was talking about a more recent one. It literally wiped out nearly every structure. Can't remember name but in last 15 years.
I don't know if he was white or black but either way the opposite race could say even the gators wouldn't eat him.
Went with a group of about 12 once and hunted a lease that I'm pretty sure was owned by the Mc.Ilhenny's. Anyway, we had all limited out for Friday and Saturday with Sunday still to hunt so they decided it was a good idea to haul the ducks back to the landing and have someone pick them up. My cousin and I got handed the job and the boat breaks down in the intercoastal canal. There we sit on 24 limits of ducks just drifting. A game warden actually stopped and towed us in. He never asked what was in the boat. My grandfather used to own 2 camps out there. Hurricane took em both. I think the land where they used to stand is now in the gulf.
