Sorry, but that doesn't make sense, either. What difference does it make whether or not Auburn and LSU win?? Auburn is the SEC West champ regardless of what happened against Bama and you REALLY think the SEC cares whether or not LSU or Arkansas won Saturday? Why would the SEC give a crap which of it's teams took Auburn's place in the title game?? The fact is, it was never going to happen and if it was, the SEC would not sit on it. That would be worse than just making the announcement. It was wishful thinking as to why it hadn't been announced yet.
I never said it made sense, I just said what I was told, and I only shared it because 2 other people posted that they had heard something similar. If they were all wrong, then they were all wrong. Sources aren't always right, but I can tell you that there are some on this board that are right more often than not.
Were you posting drunk again!?!? All these sources, where's the beef? Y'all know I'm gullible. Well don't worry, we won't tell anyone.
For the record, I just acknowledged there was a rumor out there but clearly stated I didn't believe it based on the fact that if anything does happen it wouldn't happen this early.
Not to open up the rumor of the news could break this week again, but to point out why the SEC and the NCAA would be very interested in an opportunity to knock AU off their perch to allow someone else to get their BCS spot. With AU making a BCS bowl, possibly the MNC should Cam and/or AU be found guilty down the road of the accusations, the SEC would be forced to forfeit the BCS funds that would be received. Meaning that all the money that would be distributed around the SEC, to all the schools, would have to be returned. I would think the SEC and the NCAA would rather not give the schools a share of 18 mill and then have to take it back, especially since there are probably some programs that it would be very difficult for them to be able to give it back. It isn’t like all of the schools in the SEC, or any conference for that matter, are just sitting on a couple of million at any given time, that is that they could afford to have taken back out of their budget.
I don't think if Aub gets whacked, the money has to be given back. As part of the USCw penalties, the basketball team gave some post season $ back, but they did that on their own. I think the school kept the football money. Of course, it was a lot more and they were going to get crushed no matter what they did. "The NCAA upheld the school's voluntary vacation of all basketball wins from the 2007-08 season, as well as all postseason wins. The NCAA also upheld the school's decision to give back the $206,200 the university received for participating in the NCAA tournament that year. The program will only have 12 scholarships for the 2009-2010 and 2010-11 season, which were also self-imposed by the university." Actually you are correct. I was wrong in my assumption as this article indicates. Sorry for wasting anybodies time with my own thoughts on that one. I guess I shouldn't have listened to the local ESPN sports yahoo's. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/12/sports/ncaafootball/12vecsey.html
Newton and Aub have been cleared. I told ya so. My uncle, even as late as last weekend kept insisting this was a Mississippi St issue. It was the word traveling through SEC AD offices. He maintained all along that Aub was in the clear and Newton would be eligible. NCAA rules Auburn's Cam Newton is eligible to compete (updated) | al.com
