FBI doesn't care at all about NCAA issues and they won't turn over any hard won info to the NCAA. The FBI is after the 3 MSU boosters/coaches. These MSU guys think that they are protecting MSU, but in reality they are trapping themselves in a conspiracy charge.
Then why have they been reported on Auburn's campus? You are in complete denial if you think the FBI gives a rat's ass about a couple of football coaches at MSU, and Auburn is not the focus of this investigation.
I think the FBI is after Milton Magregor (sp ?) as part of the gambling sting. He is an Auburn booster, so I will bow to your superior knowledge on that point. But like I said, they don't care at all about the NCAA stuff. It does appear that the two inquiries may be overlapping. They have been interviewing the MSU guys, once again not in conjuction with the NCAA but I think more along the lines of extortion or some other related federal beef. At least one of these guys will do some federal jail time. Magregor looks like he will too.
This will be my last post in this thread because I don't want to be The Auburn Defender. I only wanted folks to try and deal on facts, not rumor. I clicked on the link and the gist of it is: "What interest the FBI has in the NCAA infractions case involving Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is unclear... A few days after allegations of a pay-for-play scheme involving Newton and his father Cecil became public, an FBI spokesman confirmed to USA TODAY that the bureau wanted to interview John Bond. He's a former Mississippi State quarterback who spoke of being approached about the scheme and making the school aware of it. His attorney, Phil Abernethy, subsequently confirmed Bond was interviewed by a federal agent and a representative of an unnamed state agency. No details of the FBI interest were revealed. The Mississippi secretary of state's office also wants to talk with former MSU player Kenny Rogers, according to his attorney, Doug Zeit. That has to do with investigating possible issues with a state law on sports agents. Zeit maintains Rogers is not an agent, though he does work with Chicago-based agent Ian Greengross. Rogers has acknowledged relaying an alleged request of $180,000 from Cecil Newton for his son to sign with Mississippi State." So it appears that the Feds are after MSU and not targeting Auburn. For the moment.
It appears that the FBI is targeting Cecil Newton and those involved in trying to get money for his services and anyone that actually paid for those services. The guys connected with MSU simply have evidence that they reported earlier to the NCAA. The fact that the whistle blowers are from MSU doesn't mean that MSU is the focus and AU is not.
You might be right when adding "for the moment." As stated before, who knows what's really happening. My only reason in adding that link is to make a point that the feds will get involved with the NCAA if action is warranted. There's a whole lot of info we don't know and some, including me, have been posting in a thinking out loud way.
For now maybe the key to what the FBI is doing, but that doesn’t mean that is all the NCAA is doing. The FBI is wanting to get to the bottom of the extortion part of this, which at the moment is only been mentioned as MSU. What seems to be getting lost is the “supposed comment” by Cecil that he chose for Cam to go to AU because, “the money was too great”. Implying that someone connected to AU was fronting the money that Cecil was wanting. Now of course this has not been confirmed, just as much of it hasn’t, but again we are only hearing what the FBI is doing in regards to MSU, because it is the only portion of the story that has any type of evidence that is being collaborated by those involved. Who really knows what is going on behind the scenes in regards to AU and Cams connection to all of this. As we have heard, all involved, claim that Cam knew nothing about it. I would guess that is due to everyone wanting to protect him and AU, in hopes that if it can’t be proven that he knew anything then the NCAA might not make the determination that he isn’t eligible. As many of us have stated, of course he knew, it was his signature that was being sold, but what if it can’t be proven? What if there is no proof to monies being supplied by AU? Or what if it is proven that the extortion attempt was made by Cecil and Cam in regards to MSU, but no money ever was paid out, what then? No money ever actually was paid for play, but an attempt at extortion did happen, what does the NCAA conclude then?
